Fantastic 8 Hour Saksun, Tjørnuvík & Gjógv Tour
Experience the very, very best of nature in the northern part of Streymoy island and Eysturoy island. This popular small-group tour will take you to the most beloved locations on the two main islands in the Faroe Islands.
This fantastic tour will let you experience Saksun, Tjørnuvík, and Gjógv. The tour to these awe-inspiring attractions is a gorgeous tour during the bright summer months.
Your tour guide will pick you up at you preferred pick-up point in Tórshavn. From Tórshavn you will head up north along the unspoiled coastline.
Saksun is set in a natural amphitheatre high above a tidal lagoon. This wonderful hillside village is one of the most worthwhile destinations in the Faroe Islands. A unique atmosphere with amazing views of the surrounding mountains.
Saksun is outstanding with the tidal lagoon surrounded by sand, mountains and stunning waterfalls. You will also get the chance to see the old iconic turfed church overlooking the lagoon.
After your visit in Saksun your next stop is Tjørnuvík. This tidy and uncrowded settlement sits in unbelievable setting. You will stand in a remote inlet overlooking the breathtaking scenery. Your last stop will be Gjógv.
When approaching Gjógv, you will see the village Funningur. The first vikings in the Faroe Islands settled in Funningur. You will have the chance to take a picture of the winding road leading to the valley where Funningur is located.
Now it is time for you to explore the village Gjógv. After 10 minutes with spectacular mountain roads, Gjógv is in sight down the next valley. Gjógv is located on the island Eysturoy. Gjógv means gorge in Faroese. You will understand why the village got this name when looking into the beautiful sea-filled gorge that is the most iconic attraction in Gjógv.
Gjógv is an idyllically located and beautiful quiet village with stunning view towards the island Kalsoy and other islands in the northern part of the Faroe Islands. There is a pretty good chance to spot seals when you enter the gorge.
The local guesthouse will serve for you a lunch platter and pancakes with warm beverages. You will also walk through the village and into the gorge. From Gjógv you will stop by Eiðisskarð where you will have a great view towards the rocky sea-stacks "The Giant and his Wife".
Now you will head back to Tórshavn. You will take the old mountain road from the valley Kollafjøður to Tórshavn. You will also experience some of the tallest mountains in the Faroe Islands such as Slættaratindur and Vaðhorn.
When back on Streymoy island, you will see the only prison in the Faroe Islands and maybe the only grass-roofed prison in the world. You will also stop by Norðradalsskarð to enjoy the view towards the island Koltur. The tour guide will drive you to your designated drop-off point.
