3 Day Summer Self-Drive | Sea Cliffs & Uncrowded Villages

Sea Cliffs and Viking settlement

Welcome to the Faroe Islands. Look forward to three amazing days in untouched nature. On this first day, you will explore the sheer sea cliffs in Vestmanna.

The tour to the impressive cliffs in Vestmanna starts at 16.20pm. You will jump onboard a comfortable boat for a two hours journey to grottoes, spectacular rock formations and rich birdlife.

After your boat tour departing from the harbour in Vestmanna, head to the nearby village Kvívík. The village has a Viking excavation illustrating how the first settlers on the Faroe Islands lived. These Viking ruins are situated by the seaside in Kvívík.

When getting your way to Tórshavn, take the mountain road Oyggjarvegur. Along this road to Tórshavn, you will see the only prison in the country and one of the very few turf roofed prisons in the world. Shortly after passing the prison, make sure to turn right towards Norðradalur. Stop by the Norðradalsskarð pass from where you will have an incredible nature experience overlooking a wide valley and the iconic island Koltur inhabited by only a single person!

If you arrive early in the morning, make sure to hike to the Lake above the ocean. Lake Leitisvatn hovers over the Atlantic Ocean from the Slave's Cliff also known as Trælanípa by the locals. You will experience the breathtaking site here as well as the Bøsdalafossur Waterfall that drops right into the ocean.

You will spend your first night in the Faroe Islands in the cosy capital. Take a stroll in Tórshavn before settling in at your accommodation.

Puffins in Mykines

Today, you will enjoy a boat ride to the puffin island Mykines. Head to the harbour in Sørvágur where the boat will take you for a 45 minutes sailing experience to the remote and bird-rich island Mykines.

Once you step on land, the puffins will greet you on the island. You will see lots of puffins along the route when walking on the island.

When you are done with Mykines, the boat will sail you back to Vágar Island. Now head back to the capital. Spend the bright summer night exploring Tórshavn before settling in at your accommodation.

Streymoy Island & Eysturoy Island

It is your last day of this self drive tour. Make sure to leave the islands in the afternoon so that you have time for an adventure packed day to the small villages Saksun, Tjørnuvík, and Gjógv.

Now, head to Vagar island where the airport is. If you still have some time left, make sure to drive to Gásadalur only 15 minutes from the airport where you will see Múlafossur Waterfall. On your way back from Gásadalur, you can turn right when you get to the village Bøur. In this tidy village you will walk between small grass roof houses and have a splendid view of Tindhólmur islet and also the sea-stacks Drangarnir.
