Witness the lovely puffins in Mykines in the most exiting way possible. This tour will make you explore the puffins on Mykines island in depth, with "Close Encounters of the Puffin Kind!"

Be sure to experience all the best sights on Mykines in the company of the Atlantic puffin with their colourful beak. You will spend 4 hours on the puffin island with lots of time to see puffins on the grassy hillsides.

Turn up at the harbour in the village Sørvágur on Vágar Island in the morning and we will take you on an unforgettable tour to the main summer attraction in the Faroe Islands. The boat departs from the Sørvágur harbour at 09:30 am. The ferry will leave Mykines again at 14:15 pm and you will return to Sørvágur at 15:00 pm.

You can add transport from Tórshavn to the ferry and from the ferry back to Tórshavn after the Mykines tour to make this the perfect hassle-free day tour. Simply add this extra service during the booking process. The tour guide will then pick you up at 08:00 in Tórshavn.

You will be secured a ferry ticket when you arrive to the harbour in the morning. Also, local hiking tax is included in the tour as well as a lunch in stunningly beautiful surroundings in Mykines.

You will sail to Mykines in a boat that carries 70 pax. You can sit on the deck while you are approaching Mykines or you can sit in the covered saloon. The crossing time is 45 minutes.

This day tour to Mykines will secure you lots of amazing photo opportunities of puffins and the lush green hillsides. Bringing your camera is simply a must when doing the day tour to Mykines.

The puffin island is the ideal spot to relax, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the tranquility away from city noise and large crowds. You will stand in the middle of the extraordinary bird life and with puffins in the thousands flying just above your head in all directions. You will be mesmerised by the amount of puffins here and how close you can get to these fascinating creatures.

While you enjoy all the puffins, you will have unbelievable sight of rugged cliffs and the captivating shoreline. The puffins take most of the visitor's attention. That is totally understandable, but there are also other exceptionally bird species here such as the northern gannet and the common murre. You can see these birds on sea stacks and on the steep cliff sides.

When you arrive in Mykines, a local tour guide will greet you. Before you go hiking to see all the puffins, you will have some refreshments. Now, you are ready to hit the path to the puffin heaven. The puffins grasses the island during summer only and this is also the only period when Mykines is open for travellers. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is bookable from May to August.

Now, what are you waiting for? Join this day trip to jaw-dropping landscapes, lots of puffins, and breathtaking sceneries. Check availability by choosing a date.

I enjoyed very much this tour on beautiful Mykines. Several hours walking, lovely lunchbox with stunning views and finally thousands of Puffins to admire at the end of the tour! It was a great day! Highly recommended!

Wonderful day, despite the fog. We saw many puffins and enjoyed a nice walk up to the cliff and back. I had not expected to be able to be so close to the birds, The packed lunch that was provided was delicious. Highly recommend this tour.

Unfortunately the tour was cancelled due to weather reasons, but Tummas and Borgfrið quickly found a plan B and we had a wonderful tour on Nólsoy Island. I had a spectacular hike in the mountains with stunning views. When you travel to the Faroe Islands you should know that everything depends on the weather, but even if a tour is cancelled they will always look for an option to be able to do it. I would like to thank Tummas and Borgfrið for a great day. Highly recommended.

A leisure hike taking in the fresh air and quietness of the island. Although a part of the island was closed, we were still able to spot puffins going about their activities disregarding presence of human visitors. Nice!

Tummas was a fantastic guide and this company is wonderful about communicating and trying to help – no small feat in the midst of a significant labor strike with resultant gasoline, food, supply shortage etc. mykines Ísland tour is fantastic and we were lucky to have dry weather. Thanks to our guide we learned a lot that enhanced our stay there as well.

The tour was amazing and we had a lady as our guide, she was very nice , explained a lot of the island history and local life. The island is stunning, the views are unique!
The only thing that was not right was the fact that we booked our tour on 18th of January , when it was mentioned that the tour had the departure hour at 10,45 a.m, and a duration of 7,5 hours. I didn” t received any information about the fact that the departure hour changed to 9,15 a.m, and that the duration of the tour has changed to 5,5 hours. When we checked , the day before the tour, on the agency’ s website, we saw the departing hours different, we emailed ( the evening before!) the agency and someone, luckly, responded that ” yes, it is at 9,15″. So, if we didn’ t ask, we were in danger to skip our booked and payed tour!!! This is a real bad management and it could be a way to destroy our holliday in Feroe. I never encountered such a situation in none of my travels before, it is unbelievable. The agency should pay more attention when distributing the PAYED bookings to other local tour operatorii. They just “forgot” about our 4 adults payed tour on Mykines. Unbeliavable.

Great tour. As you need a guide to visit the island do we recommend to book a tour – the island is protected and you cannot walk around on your own. The other people who booked the ferry alone were hearded in a big group to the puffin colony. We enjoyed our walk and got to see more of the island.

Hervør was AMAZING! She was our guide and also happens to have a summer home on the island, so she’s incredibly knowledgable about all things Mykines. She even made us lunch including her own hand-smoked salmon and sausage; delicious! Hervør was thoughtful about the athletic abilities of our group when considering which route to take up to the puffins. Would highly recommend this tour group as they are muuuch smaller (five people in our group) compared to the larger companies (50+ people).

Great experience, our guide was very nice and knowledgeable, views unforgettable, two thumbs up

We were there on the last day of the season and there were still Puffins around. Also gannets and Fulmars and lots of them, a Whimbrel in the grass. o Kittiwakes but we were late in the season.
Tour was excellent and the guide Tomass knew his stuff. Lunch overlooking the Fulmars and Gannets flying the cliffs was great.

It was a great day and I would recommend this trip if it is the only trip you do during your stay – provided you are within the tour time frame.

The boat trip to and from Mykines was great and the driver took the time to show us different spots along the way. We then arrived at Mykines and started our hike. I have a dodgy knee and my partner is not a keen walker nor particularly fit. We were soon left behind. In the description of the trip it didn’t mention that there was serious hiking involved and a good level of fitness required. We missed most of the commentary. And just when we would catch up off the group went again with no time for us to catch our breath.
We were offered the chance to stop and wait while the group did a loop and came back. We enjoyed the rest and the tasty lunch.
When the group rejoined us we walked back along the ridge. One of the other participants filled us in on some of the commentary that we had missed. We appreciated that the guide took the time to point out the puffins to us and we were so happy to see them as we had heard that they had all left.
We also had an interesting tour around the village.
This trip is only for those with moderate fitness and this needs to be included in the trip description.

We had a fantastic day on Mykines! A beautiful hike with a lot of puffins to see. Our guide was great. Very friendly and competent. Thanks again for a great day!

I concur with Luke’s comments on June 9. My review comes late due to unforeseen circumstances. This tour is run by the Heimdals; very efficient and flexible in terms of clients’ requirements. The groups are small which makes it all the more pleasant. As a travel agent of many years I highly recommend this tour and tour operator.

  15. Rehana Anait

Today was fantastic on Mykines !

  16. Maria Paola Calasso

The tour was super nice, we saw a lot of puffins and the guide was very good.

Absolutely terrific day, if you’re able to get to Mykines during your visit I’d strongly recommend this tour. To start with, the operator was kind enough to accomodate my late request for a hotel transfer to & from Torshavn which was much appreciated.

When we arrived on Mykines, our guide Tomass led us off in the other direction to most of the people on the island which worked out wonderfully well. We hiked up to a terrific spot where we enjoyed the excellent provided lunch. It was then along a ridge to the other end of the island where the larger puffin colony was located, and we passed the throng of people heading the other way.

This meant we were able to enjoy the puffins with very few other people around, which made the whole experience more relaxed. A great way to see the island.

Hats off to Tomass for a splendid day, right from the start of going over & above trying to track down 2 people who didn’t show & thus missed the boat.

His knowledge, enthusiasm & obvious pride about the Faroes helped make it a very enjoyable experience from start to finish.

We were fortunate with the weather in that there was little wind & cloud, but layering up is advisable – especially if you stand out on deck during the boat trip across. It can be a little steep and/or narrow a couple of times too, so if you are considering walking pole/s then it won’t go astray.

Having everything arranged was a great way to see Mykines, I’d encourage anyone thinking of heading out there to do it this way

Our stay in the Faroe Islands was spectacular! The landscape is breathtaking and the food and culture are also incredible. I don’t even know where to begin. It was so impactful to learn about the history of the Faroe Islands and get a glimpse into the lives of those who live there today. All of this would not have been possible without Tummas. We are so grateful for the bespoke experiences he created for us.

He not only coordinated all the fine details of each day’s itinerary flawlessly but he also adjusted accordingly to ever-changing weather conditions. Our day on Mykines was perfect!

Tummas was patient to answer all of our questions and introduced us to what has become one of our favorite destinations in the world. We are looking forward to returning soon and will most definitely be requesting Tummas again.

  20. Lena Lauridsen

We had the most wonderful tour with Tummas to Mykines. Wonderful weather, stunning nature and lots of puffins and other birds. We were so lucky that our group only was our family and Tummas and he was an excellent guide showing the hidden gems of the Island, telling the stories – a pleasure to be with. Best regards, the Lauridsen Family

  21. Marina Fabbi

Our guide was excellent. We enjoyed a long hike and had great views. The weather was incredibly clear and sunny and this contributed to make the day amazing.

  22. Andrew Knight

Just a quick note to say thank you for organizing & hosting our trip to Mykines.

The lady who greeted us with our ferry tickets & lunches was gorgeous, the healthy fresh lunch fantastic, the skipper & crew of the boat professional & attentive, our guide warm, friendly & highly informative. All in all an unforgettable experience.
Considering the unmeasurable value of the island ecosystem & diverse sensitivities, it is my hope & strong belief that all visitations to the island should by necessity involve a company such as yours to reduce future impact, particularly on Puffin/Lundi populations/nesting sites.
    Regards
    Andrew Knight

  23. John Walke

Great day trip our guide Tummas was very friendly and a great guide. The hike itself was quite tiring but the views and being surrounded by puffins made it worthwhile! Highly recommend this tour which was well worth the money.

  24. Sarah Pedersen

I had the most amazing trip! The team was very helpful and accommodating and the trip leader even helped me find the best place on the boat to stand (as I tend to get quite sea-sick…but I didn’t on this trip)! The island was absolutely beautiful and I saw more puffins than I ever thought I’d see in my lifetime. We had a beautiful hike, a nice lunch and views that I will never forget. Thank you for such an incredible experience.

  25. Anita Schoemaker

The tour was excellent. The tour guide is very nice and it is great that you did not walk the steap slope.

  26. AIKATERINI POLYCHRONI

We took the ferry from Vagar to Mykines but we had to check the weather before the departure as it ‘s not always favorable and sometimes the ferry cannot come to take you back to Vagar! The weather is unpredictable. We had a little bit of Rain, sun and wind! So you have to dress in layers. A waterproof jacket and good hiking shoes is a must. The path is not very easy, but the View is absolutely stunning. Our guide Thomas was skilled and showed us the way to the puffins’ nests. We had a lovely lunch, that our guide had prepared for us, when we reached the lighthouse ! The way Back is easier. You have some time to stroll around the Village as well, while waiting for the ferry to pick you up!
