Dine in a private home on Eysturoy Island just after exploring hidden treasures on the island. This full-day tour will get you to secluded villages, mountain views, local legends, and topped with a carefully prepared lunch in a private home. You will get the best of the southern part of Eysturoy Island often overseen by travellers.
Your small-group (8 people or less) adventure begins with pickup in Tórshavn. After exploring the jellyfish roundabout under the seabed in the Eysturoy Tunnel, you will experience small hamlets that you have most likely never heard of. From settlements such as Morkranes, Kolbeinagjógv, and Selatrað.
These are three tranquil settlements nestled along the secluded coastline. With minimal traffic and the soothing sounds of rushing streams, these spots will get you into the peaceful isolation so defining for the Faroe Islands.
Travel through Strendur and Skála, two villages shaped by history and modern development. In Skála, visit a hidden natural waterfall near a scenic outdoor swimming pool and learn about the area’s significance during World War II. The village is also home to the Faroe Islands’ largest shipyard and dry-dock.
In Strendur, the largest village on the western shore of the 14 km-long Skálafjørður Fjord, there are more untold stories to be unfolded. Once a key strategic point hosting British warships and oil reserves, the village now offers tranquility, with a charming lagoon near the old wooden church and colourful hillside homes.
Lake Toftavatn sits in peaceful surroundings. A walking path winds around the lake, up and down through the largest heathland on the islands. Here you will see graylag geese, golden plovers, and the rare red-throated diver nest during summer. This scenic area is a favourite resting spot for migratory birds and home to several rare plants. On a summer day, the heath resounds with the calls of birds as the sun sparkles on the freshwater lake. It is a perfect place to take a deep breath of fresh air and let a sense of calm settle over you.
There is nothing like an Eat Local experience. This tour will conclude with a visit to a local home on Eysturoy Island. Here, you will be welcomed with a homemade meal crafted mostly from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. This authentic Heimablídni experience — dining in a Faroese home — is a cherished tradition and an intimate way to connect with the island’s culture
