Day 1
Arrival
Welcome to the Faroe Islands! Situated between sheep and mountains, the picturesque Vágar Airport is ready to welcome you. For nature-lovers this welcome can’t get any better.
After breathing in the fresh air and appreciating the beautiful scenery, a taxi driver will take you to the capital, Tórshavn. This is where you will stay. Your accommodation at Hotel Føroyar sits serenely on the way up to the mountains of Tórshavn among sheep and beautiful views.
We recommend you to use this day to get familiar with your amazing surroundings. Go for a walk in the friendly slopes just outside your hotel room and prepare yourself for the adventure that lies ahead.
Day 2
Nólsoy Lighthouse
One of the most talked-about hikes in the Faroe Islands is the hike on Nólsoy Island. Your first day of hiking will take you to the remote Nólsoy Lighthouse in all its glory. Your tour guide will pick you up at 07:15.
The hike is located at the very end of Nólsoy Island. You will reach the island by boat from Tórshavn. Starting in the only settlement on Nólsoy Island, the hike features views of the lovely neighbouring Streymoy Island and Sandoy Island.
In true “Land of Maybe” spirit, your views may be disturbed by the weather, but we promise that this experience is truly amazing either way. Nólsoy Lighthouse is one of the absolute highlights of the Faroe Islands. Expect to be back in Tórshavn at 17:15.
Hiking distance: 12 km (7.5 mi)
Day 3
Gásadalur Postal Route & Múlafossur Waterfall
After a good night’s sleep, get ready for another breathtaking day on the amazing Vágar Island. This time, you will walk in the footsteps of the old postman on the island. Your tour guide will pick you up at 09:00 in the morning. You are about to hike to the secluded Gásadalur, which is the westernmost village on the island.
Up until 2006, there was no tunnel connecting Gásadalur to the rest of the island. The old postman had to hike up the mountain that connects Gásadalur to the neighbouring Bøur several times a week.
Gásadalur is especially famous for the incredible Múlafossur waterfall. This mesmerizing natural phenomenon drops from the promontory and straight into the North Atlantic Ocean. This is one of the most pictured places on the Faroe Islands. Today, you will see this breathtaking view with your own eyes.
The hike starts off right before the tunnel to Gásadalur. From here you will walk up the mountain between Bøur and Gásadalur. The views include the breathtaking islet Tindhólmur, which could be the Faroe Islands 19th island because it has running water, which is one of the criteria for being an island, but as of right now it will remain an islet. Tindhólmur isn’t the only thing intriguing on the horizon as you will also experience views of the beautiful Mykines island.
This hike to Gásadalur is filled with impressions. On the way you will pass Líksteinin // The dead body’s stone. Men from Gásadalur used to use this stone to rest coffins before they were put to their final resting place in the neighbouring village Bøur (there is no graveyard in Gásadalur).
Further along the route, you will reach Keldan Vívd, a spring with blessed water, which will give eternal youth to all those who drink from it. Make sure to take a sip!
Filled with joy and surrounded by mountains on one side and the sea on the other, it is soon time to descend down towards Gásadalur. Now it is your turn to join those lucky people who have eternalized the stunning Múlafossur with a picture.
From Gásadalur, your tour guide will drive you back to Tórshavn. Expect to be at your hotel around 16:00.
Hiking distance: 8 km (5 mi)
Day 4
Strolling around Tórshavn
After the amazing experience yesterday, this is your chance to delve in the capital on your own for a day. Tórshavn is one of the smallest capitals in the world. Still it is lively and has a lot to offer visitors. From turf-roofed houses to quality cafés.
We recommend strolling around the lovely old part of Tórshavn, getting some faroese souvenirs or locally made clothes. Get a good night's rest. Tomorrow there is more adventure to come.
Day 5
Tjørnuvík & Mount Mýlingur
Get ready for an adventurous day in unspoiled nature. Surrounded by fresh air and stunning scenery, you will enjoy one the must-do hikes on the Faroe Islands. You will hike from of the most popular villages in the Faroe Islands. The hike includes a visit to the out-of-this world view from the spiky Mount Mýlingur. Your hiking guide will pick you up at 09:00.
Starting off in the secluded settlement Tjørnuvík. This tour boosts astonishing views of mountains and valleys. You will hike the unexplored hill sides. As you hike up the mountain you’ll have the phenomenal opportunity to experience Tjørnuvík from the view of a drone - an unbelievable sight.
As you approach Mount Mýlingur from the mountains, you will have panoramic views of this remote part of the archipelago. This hike is without doubt one of the most beautiful in the Faroe Islands. Expect to see lots of birds as you traverse the fairy-tale landscape. You will be back at your hotel around 17:00.
Hiking distance: 11 km (6.8 mi)
Day 6
Slættaratindur Summit
Today is the day for high peaks and wonderful views! It is time to explore Faroe Islands' highest summit, Slættaratindur. The roof of the Faroe Islands peaks at 880meters (2887feet) above sea level.
Your guide will pick you up at 09:00. Slættaratindur is located on Eysturoy island. The hike starts at 400 meters, and your guide will follow you safely all the way up to the highest point. When standing on the summit, you will have an incredible panoramic view of the entire archipelago, weather permitting.
The Faroe Islands is the “Land of Maybe”. This name truly suits, when exploring Slættartindur.
You can experience standing in the middle of clouds and only see Slættaratindur itself. But on a clear day you will have a breathtaking view over the Faroe Islands from the northernmost island to the southernmost island, amazing right?
On this day, it is also possible for you to choose to go for a different hike of your choice. Let us know, when you book, if you have any special wishes for this day, and we will take care of it. You are back in Tórshavn around 16:00.
Hiking distance: 6 km (3.6 mi)
Day 7
Trælanípa Cliff & Dunnesdrangar
On your last day of hiking, you will set off for the beautiful Vágar Island. You will start the week off with two hikes! Pick up is at 09:00.
First you will enjoy one of the most popular hikes on the Faroe Islands. You will hike to Trælanípa // the Slave Cliff, where you will be exposed to the stunning Lake Above the Ocean.
This hike offers breathtaking views of the sea and the beautiful green landscape around you.
Now it is your turn to experience it. The photos of this attraction are always great but the sight is even more enchanting in real life!
The second hike will take you to the amazing Dunnesdrangar sea stacks. This hike is one of the hidden gems on the Faroe Islands. These rock formations are also located on Vágar Island and the starting point is right next to Vágar Airport. You will walk along a 3 kilometre path across the moor before getting to the vantage point. The terrain is untouched and stunning.
Upon reaching the destination, you will get extraordinary views of the sea stacks and the ocean beneath them. Enjoy the tranquility of nature and the sound of the wild waves beneath you.
You will now head back to Tórshavn filled with impressions from your first day of hiking. You will be at your accommodation in the late afternoon at 17:00.
Hiking distance: 11 km (6.8 mi)

Yupeng He –
The trip in Faroe was excellent and we enjoyed the lush green scenery. The Guide to Faroe Islands help and Gunnva’s guide are most appreciated.
Suzanne Perry –
We had a wonderful time in your beautiful country. Gunnvá was an excellent guide!
Daniella Levitt –
Thank you for a lovely guided trip to the Faroe Islands. It is so beautiful.
Michelle Flückiger –
We couldn’t have wished for more! Our guides Gunnvá and Sveinur were great adjusting the program every day according to the weather, allowing us to experience the Faroes at its best. The land of maybe kept them and us on our toes, an experience we would not want to miss.
Many thanks go also to Hogni who patiently addressed all of our extra wishes and supported us greatly when the airplane to the Faroes could not fly as planned due to heavy fog.
If anything, the only suggestion we have is to maybe consider a hotel closer to downtown Tórshavn. The walk uphill after dinner is not very enjoyable and due to the strike that affected the local buses the only other option were taxis every night.
Thank you so much for showing us these wonderful islands in such a personal and sustainable way.
Jean-Marc Heinicke –
If I could, I would give it six stars ! Gunnvà is an absolutely amazing guide. She discusses her hiking choices with regard to the general conditions and is very competent and assuring maximum security even in challenging passages. She is a super fun person to be around, it felt like hiking with a friend. Being an actor and local movie star (!) she is a gifted storyteller and despite their general gloominess her legends and family stories are entertaining, intriguing and give insight to the local culture. I would like to hike with her again when I come back the next time !
The general organization was smooth and uncomplicated, Hogni is extremely responsive and accommodating. Thanks for making my Faroe experience unforgettable 🙏🏻 !
Florian Berger –
We had a really great trip!
Everything was well sorted, and the hotel’s location was good, plus they had a nice breakfast.
Gunnvá, our guide, was really cool. Super professional and all. She took us to places we wouldn’t have gone on our own. The daily plans were adjusted based on the weather to guarantee the best possible experience for the day. We got to see awesome views and also learned about the local culture.
Sean Lanier –
Our days have been great. Our guide has been a really knowledgeable tour guide and a lot of fun to spend time with. We also got lucky with the weather, have had fantastic hikes, and were able to see whales and puffins!
Brian Shu –
It’s been wonderful.
Can’t wait to come back to explore more!
Andrew Bolton –
We had an amazing time! The hikes were great (apart from the first day, but that was due to heavy fog), with the hike to the lighthouse being the perfect end to the trip. We had great weather that day and on a couple of other days, including on the Postman’s Route, so we got to see a lot of incredible scenery. I thought the day off in the middle to explore Torshavn was a great idea; it was the perfect way to recharge for the rest of the trip.
Johan was great; please thank him again for us. The hotel was very nice and really accommodating. The front desk took care of every request we had. The only minor complaint is that the walk into the city is a little too long to do in anything other than tennis shoes. That meant a lot of cab rides to and from the restaurants for dinner downtown.
We saw some unique and unforgettable things. The trip was incredible.
Thank you for all your help in setting this up for us. We really appreciate it.
