Experience an authentic Faroese meal at home with the Rasmussen family. Rigmor and Jens Mortan are born and raised on the Faroe Islands.

Growing up in a traditional Faroese kitchen, they still prepare the meals as their parents and grandparents taught them with only the best local ingredients. Jens Mortan and Rigmor will showcase a traditional home-cooked meal while explaining the history and culture around the traditional Faroese kitchen.

The Rasmussen live in a traditional 1960s house in Toftir, only a 15-minutes drive from the capital Tórshavn through the famous Eysturoy sub-sea tunnel. It is super easy to get to the place in a rented car or by taxi from Tórshavn.

You will be served six dishes. These dishes represents a typical week of food in the Faroe Islands.

Expect the menu to include: Dried fish and potatoes, Rigmor’s special fish soup, Knettir and rhubarb jam, Fermented fish with garnatálg salsa, Cod cheeks with butter onion, Fish fillet with potatoes and grated vegetables, Rhubarb pie with cream.

The meal includes two local beers, coffee and tea. The dishes are subject to change depending on the availability of local ingredients.

    We had such a lovely dinner with Rigmor and Jens! We got to try so many different types of traditionally prepared fish, and were treated with a delightful rhubarb desert! We learned so much about the history of the islands and culture from out hosts, it was a unique and special experience – would highly recommend to anyone looking to learn more about the culture and taste some delicious food along the way!

    This was easily one of the best experiences I had while visiting the Faroe Islands! Rigmor and Jens are so warm and welcoming and full of knowledge on culture, food, and history. The food was all impeccable, delicious, and very plentiful. The only thing better than the food was the conversation. It was such a pleasure swapping stories and learning so much from them both. This is a must do for anyone interested in both food and/or culture, Thank you both!

    We booked dinner with Rigmor and Jens for our first night and it was the best decision we made. The food was incredible and company even better.

    Each course was unique and very well prepared. It felt like we were able to try a little bit of everything Faroese cuisine had to offer.

    Jens and Rigmor are extremely pleasant to sit and chat with. Their knowledge about Faroese food and culture left us with a much more meaningful understanding of life here in the Faroe Islands.

    If we are lucky enough to visit the Faroe Islands again this will experience will be a requirement in our itinerary!

    We had a wonderful time! Rigmor and Jens were lovely hosts. The food was fantastic, We had four different courses of different fish, tasty rhubarb pie. Engaging conversation for the whole meal. Definitely the best experience here so far.
