Experience an authentic Faroese meal at home with the Rasmussen family. Rigmor and Jens Mortan are born and raised on the Faroe Islands.
Growing up in a traditional Faroese kitchen, they still prepare the meals as their parents and grandparents taught them with only the best local ingredients. Jens Mortan and Rigmor will showcase a traditional home-cooked meal while explaining the history and culture around the traditional Faroese kitchen.
The Rasmussen live in a traditional 1960s house in Toftir, only a 15-minutes drive from the capital Tórshavn through the famous Eysturoy sub-sea tunnel. It is super easy to get to the place in a rented car or by taxi from Tórshavn.
You will be served six dishes. These dishes represents a typical week of food in the Faroe Islands.
Expect the menu to include: Dried fish and potatoes, Rigmor’s special fish soup, Knettir and rhubarb jam, Fermented fish with garnatálg salsa, Cod cheeks with butter onion, Fish fillet with potatoes and grated vegetables, Rhubarb pie with cream.
The meal includes two local beers, coffee and tea. The dishes are subject to change depending on the availability of local ingredients.
