Experience the breathtaking scenery at the Floating Lake in the Faroe Islands. The sheer cliffs on the edge of Vágar island is one of the most photographed sights in the Faroe Islands.
An experienced tour guide will tak you all the way to the best spots to soak in the best views. From the beautiful walk along Lake Sørvágsvatn to the unbelievable sight from Cliff Trælanípan.
A tour guide will pick you up in Tórshavn on Streymoy island in the morning. You will then head straight to Vágar island passing the sub-sea tunnel that links the islands together.
The hike to Trælanípan is exciting and takes an hour or so each way. When you reach the scenery, you will stand by the cliff's edge. Here you will see straight down to the ocean 142 metres below. At the same time you see Lake Sørvágsvatn, the largest lake in the Faroe Islands.
Enjoy the panoramic view of the southernmost part of Streymoy island and the islands Hestur, Koltur, Sandoy, Skúvoy, and Suðuroy. On to your other side you can see the bird cliffs of Sørvágsbjørg, Mykines island and Mykineshólmur islet in the distance.
There are many legends related to these landscapes. There are stories about super natural beings such as the Nix (Nykur in Faroese). The Nix is a scary creature that lives in lakes and often resembles a beautiful horse. It lures people close, grabs them and pulls them to the bottom of the lake.
There are also the hidden people who look very much like us but practice witchcraft. And there is the promontory itself: the Slave Cliff. Supposedly, the name dates back to the Viking Age. At that time, Slaves were pushed off the cliff when they were for no use anymore.
The hike is considered to be a super easy one. The hike is doable for everyone. Most of the tour is on almost flat terrain. The last 200 metres are up hill.
Before heading back to Tórshavn, you will explore both Gásadalur and Bøur. Expect to be back in Tórshavn at 15:00.
No need to hesitate. Book now and you too will experience the unbelievable Floating Lake. Check availability by choosing a date.

The place is very beautiful and even more with good weather. Also worth visiting Geituskorardrangur on the other side of the lake.
Gásadalur was precious, too. Got to see a puffin around the viewpoint to Múlafossur waterfall.
Excellent experience with Ditte, who guided me on the tour.
