Experience some of the most beautiful attractions in Vagar island starting in a kayak. When renting your very own kayak, you have the chance to take an extraordinary route to see the famous sights around Bøsdalafossur waterfall. Land the kayak at the end of the lake and go ashore to see the unbelievable views.

The lake Leitisvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands stretching 6 km from one end to the other. The lake is just beside Vagar airport. Your kayak adventure will start from some old turf-roofed stone houses near the village Miðvágur. Exact meeting point is sent to you upon booking the experience. A member of staff will hand you your kayak and a spray skirt.  You will also get instructions if you are a novice kayaker.

The ride from the stone houses to the end of the lake towards the ocean and Bøsdalafossur waterfall takes one hour or so. Kayaking to the lake's edge towards the North Atlantic Ocean  is an epic paddling experience.

You can go ashore and relax while you experience the waterfall Bøsdalafossur and the free-standing Geituskorardrangur rock wall. Bøsdalafossur plunges into the fresh salty ocean and very near lies Trælanípa with the iconic view of the lake Leitisvatn hanging over the ocean.

A stop at Bøsdalafossur is a must for those travelling to the Faroe Islands. Besides taking in the sights, you will have a unique chance to immerse yourself in the untouched nature in your own rented kayak.

You will paddle in the safest kayak on the market and in the most easy to use kayak. When on the lake, you can enjoy the remoteness and silence in the middle of unspoiled landscapes. Renting a kayak on the lake Leitisvatn is for those seeking something extra on their vacation in the Faroe Islands.

Starting from the stone houses near Miðvágur, you can paddle as you like in your kayak. Leitisvatn is a freshwater lake that you most likely have seen on many pictures of the Faroe Islands.

Discover some of the wonders in the Faroe Islands by renting a kayak that will bring you to the unique seaside attractions on Vágar island. Check availability by choosing a date.

This is the best experience I have at Faroe Islands. I never have any kayaking experience previously. I never imagined I need call help and stop the Kayak boat at the center lake to park it at side of the lake and can’t take it back. I feel so ashamed and guilty to bring extra job to the warm host. But he just small and told me everything is ok. No worries and makes jokes try to me make me feel better. This is true valuable memory for me and my two kids. The Faroe Islands are amazing, the host of the kayak tour guide is awesome and brilliant. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to go kayaking and enjoying the view.

We had a great time and the lake to ourselves, while everyone else was hiking. Michael was really great to chat with and explained where to get the best views, and they were absolutely stunning. Highly recommend if you love being on the water!

  3. YZ

    10/10 Experience.

Michael had been nothing but fantastic and went out of the way to help make my experience better in more ways than one.

A solid highlight of the trip

  4. Lionel

    What a special experience!
We were new to kayaking and Michael was kind, helpful & reassuring.
Sailing on the lake in the beautiful weather was a rather special and unique experience; the views over the ocean are truly amazing.
A great afternoon in the peacefulness and loneliness of the suspended lake.
Would recommend to all; beginners & experienced alike.

  5. Dan

What a wonderful kayak experience! We would highly recommend the guided tour, it included so much more than we would have seen if we were on our own. This was definitely the highlight of our trip!

  6. Morag

Highly recommend doing the kayak trip. The kayaks were easy to use. Michael very kindly let us follow his group once we got to land to the best look out spot to see the waterfall. We were even lucky enough to see a couple of whales!
Really recommend, definitely one of the highlights of the trip.
