Experience some of the most beautiful attractions in Vagar island starting in a kayak. When renting your very own kayak, you have the chance to take an extraordinary route to see the famous sights around Bøsdalafossur waterfall. Land the kayak at the end of the lake and go ashore to see the unbelievable views.
The lake Leitisvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands stretching 6 km from one end to the other. The lake is just beside Vagar airport. Your kayak adventure will start from some old turf-roofed stone houses near the village Miðvágur. Exact meeting point is sent to you upon booking the experience. A member of staff will hand you your kayak and a spray skirt. You will also get instructions if you are a novice kayaker.
The ride from the stone houses to the end of the lake towards the ocean and Bøsdalafossur waterfall takes one hour or so. Kayaking to the lake's edge towards the North Atlantic Ocean is an epic paddling experience.
You can go ashore and relax while you experience the waterfall Bøsdalafossur and the free-standing Geituskorardrangur rock wall. Bøsdalafossur plunges into the fresh salty ocean and very near lies Trælanípa with the iconic view of the lake Leitisvatn hanging over the ocean.
A stop at Bøsdalafossur is a must for those travelling to the Faroe Islands. Besides taking in the sights, you will have a unique chance to immerse yourself in the untouched nature in your own rented kayak.
You will paddle in the safest kayak on the market and in the most easy to use kayak. When on the lake, you can enjoy the remoteness and silence in the middle of unspoiled landscapes. Renting a kayak on the lake Leitisvatn is for those seeking something extra on their vacation in the Faroe Islands.
Starting from the stone houses near Miðvágur, you can paddle as you like in your kayak. Leitisvatn is a freshwater lake that you most likely have seen on many pictures of the Faroe Islands.
Discover some of the wonders in the Faroe Islands by renting a kayak that will bring you to the unique seaside attractions on Vágar island. Check availability by choosing a date.

Yes, you can park for free right next to the starting point. This is where you will find the small stone house along the lake where the kayaking instructor will greet you.
8) Is there an upper weight limit for those renting a kayak? Yes, 100 kg is the maximum weight for the kayaks in order for traveller to get a good experience.
9) Can you stop with your kayak at the end and take a short walk to see the waterfall. Yes, you are welcome to do so. It is easy to get on land and you have plenty of time exploring the coastline at the end of the lake where the waterfall drops into the ocean.

This is an absolute must-do on a trip to the Faroes. We based ourselves in Vagar and decided not to rent a car. While this is a harder way to get around, it’s quite a short walk from Miðvágur so it worked well.
I originally booked this experience for the 28th of March (my birthday) and Michael had to cancel due to high winds. We rebooked for the 29th and the wind thwarted us again. Michael was extremely kind and communicative, checking the weather for us for our remaining days to ensure we could still kayak. He informed me that the 30th of March would be good and the weather was absolutely perfect. He also wished me happy birthday via email and in person- a very friendly, warm man.
The experience is beyond amazing. I’ve kayaked quite a lot but it was my partner’s first time. Nonetheless, the kayaks are wonderfully stable and easy to row and he loved it and can’t wait to kayak again. You get a very generous amount of time- plenty of time to kayak both ways and explore the waterfall and cliffs at the end of the lake. The views are unbeatable. The price is also incredibly reasonable! A very special day for both of us and a huge thank you to Michael for his commitment to finding a good day for us to Kayak. Can’t recommend this experience more.

We had an amazing experience kayaking on the lake and eating next to the waterfall! Beautiful scenery, (almost) no rain, we could enjoy a quiet and sporty day. We had good communication with Michael, he was very helpful even before we got to the location. Perfect!

This was an absolutely spectacular tour event. The kayaking on the lake was beautiful and the hike to the top brought us spectacular views and photo opportunities. I can’t say enough great things about Michael. He is an excellent guide: incredibly knowledgeable, patient and cares for his customers safety. I highly recommend this tour and can’t imagine doing it unguided. Definitely on the list of things to do when we come back with friends.

What an amazing experience! Our guide could not have been better. He was knowledgeable about the history, weather, where to go and even patient with a 61 year old who struggles with height issues. Kayaking was the best and our guide also helped me on the way back with the current. Best trip ever!

Awesome experience! It was super windy and quite chilly so the paddle was a bit difficult, but my partner and I had a blast kayaking to the end of the lake, exploring the cliff (carefully – follow the path Michael gives you!), and then kayaking back. We’re both tired, but we got to see some amazing vistas that the hikers don’t have access to!

Michael is a lovely person and the experience is incredible (I did it alone and I enjoyed everything). The other side of the waterfall is only accessible via kayak so you’ll be almost alone like I was. Silence is incredible, and also when you’ll climb up the little rock cliff you’ll se a crazy view of a montain side in the ocean. Recommended.

One of a kind experience on the lake Leitisvatn made possible by Michael, an amazing guide who refreshed our memory on kayaking and gave us instructions on how to stay safe plus doing the hike when landing the kayak. It was a bit windy this day and he told us it was fine to come a bit later and just enjoy our time on the lake in our own pace without any stress. Doing this hike is something that all of the other tourists can not do due to the water blocking the access to the landing spot at the waterfall. Hence it will be a more unique experience (and not having to pay the usual overpriced hiking fee). It is undeniably a very affordable and an unique experience.

Michael is extremely amazing , very kind , very helpful, very understanding and very patient.
The kayak experience was amazing , it was my first time .
Sadly we misunderstood from our side what michael explained and we parked the kayaks in another place so we made it very hard for michael to get them back. We are extremely sorry about it . But other than this michael even gave us a very good hiking experience to see the waterfall from the other side.
Thank you so much for everything.
I highly recommend it .
You made our day exceptional and sorry again for the inconvenience

Absolutely amazing experience. Stunning scenery. Michael was great at explaining where we needed to go to see the best bits. Kayaks were great and easy to manoeuvre and stable (although we were very lucky to have perfect weather – in November!). This is an unmissable experience and would highly recommend.

Michael offers a very relaxed kayaking tour across the lake. Get the crossing to the waterfall done, go ashore and spend time on top of the waterfall, which seems to be the end of the world. Astonishing views! Do not skip this hike, it was the high-light of our 4-day trip.
Good material, safety first. Thanks.

Thank you Michael!!
