Cliff Top Hike on Sandoy Island

Your guided tour begins in Tórshavn, where you are picked up and driven beneath the Atlantic Ocean through the Sandoy Island subsea tunnel. Inside, you will pass through a striking cultural installation: artwork by Faroese artist Edward Fuglø paired with music composed by Sunleif Rasmussen, transforming the crossing into something far more memorable than an ordinary tunnel drive.
Arriving in the village of Skopun, you will set out on foot with your guide toward the coastal cliffs. As you walk, seabirds nest along the steep rock faces above and below the trail. Your guide points out fulmars, guillemots, and other cliff-dwelling birds, sharing insight into their nesting habits and the role these colonies have played in Faroese life for generations.
The trail climbs gently as you make your way toward the grassy summit of Gleðin, standing 271 meters (889 feet) above the sea. Along the way, you will pass through open moorland typical of Sandoy Island, with sheep grazing freely and views opening up gradually as you gain height.
From the summit, you are rewarded with sweeping views across Sandoy Island, out toward the sea stacks nearby, and across to rock formations on other islands rising from the ocean. Take your time here to soak in the scenery, take photos, and enjoy a quiet moment above the Atlantic before starting your descent.
After returning to Skopun, you are driven back through the subsea tunnel to Tórshavn, bringing your day of hiking, culture, and coastal views to a close. All done with a local guide.
