Experience one of the Faroe Islands’ most stunning winter adventures on this tour to Kalsoy Island, the narrow “flute island” famed for its tunnels and the iconic Kallur Lighthouse. Your guide will be waiting at the port in Syðradalur on Kalsoy Island when you disembark the ferry leaving Klaksvík on Borðoy Island at 10:00 AM. It is a 20 minutes ferry crossing from Borðoy Island to Kalsoy Island. You’ll explore Kalsoy Island in your tour guide’s vehicle so if you have a car, leave it on the mainland. You will have 4 hours on Kalsoy Island, the perfect duration for you to explore it all!
The first destination is Trøllanes, the northernmost settlement on Kalsoy Island. You’ll set off on foot toward Kallur Lighthouse. In winter conditions, the trail crosses open, windswept slopes with sweeping views over neighbouring islands including Kunoy Island and Viðoy Island. You’ll reach the lighthouse itself, perched dramatically on a ridge above the sea, with the surrounding peaks often dusted in snow. Along the way, you will stop at the James Bond tombstone, a quirky monument to the 2021 film “No Time to Die,” which was partly filmed on Kalsoy Island.
From there you’ll head to Mikladalur to visit the Sea Lady Statue, commemorating the island’s famous seal woman legend, before stopping at a local food shed to taste local cheese and enjoy a glass of wine. This is the perfect place to relax before returning to Syðradalur where the ferry awaits. The guide will also show you his sheep roaming in Mikladalur
The tour ends back at Syðradalur at 2:20 PM in time for the return ferry to Klaksvík, arriving on the mainland at 2:40 PM after the 20 minute crossing. Please note that travellers are responsible for booking their own ferry tickets. Buy the ferry ticket as you walk onboard the ferry. It is winter so ferry tickets are never sold out in advance.
Winter brings cool and ofter windy weather so bring warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy hiking boots. Your guide will adjust the route if needed for safety. This tour is best suited to travellers comfortable with moderate hiking on exposed terrain in cold, windy conditions, with a small group size ensuring a personal, flexible experience.
