Explore the most awe-inspiring sights on Kalsoy Island with comfort and ease. This tour includes the famous Kallur Lighthouse standing only metres from the black promontory hundreds of metres above sea level.

Park your car at the large parking lot free of charge in the town Klaksvík on Borðoy Island next to the ferry. Walk straight onboard the ferry to Kalsoy Island departing at 10:00am.

When you step on land on Kalsoy Island 20 minutes later, a shuttle bus awaits you. A local experienced driver will take you through the dark and narrow tunnels connecting the valleys on Kalsoy Island. You will head all the way to the remote village Trøllanes.

When you get to Trøllanes at 11:00am, a local tour guide will greet you. From this uncrowded little village, your guide will take you along the mountain path to Kallur Lighthouse on the very tip of this outlying island.

For those who want something extra, add the Puffin Viewpoint during the booking process. The guide will then take you to a hidden puffin colony on Kalsoy Island. Please note that puffins are only here during the four month period from May to August.

Remember to bring some food and water. You will need it for the hours on the island.

This less than one hour hike will take you to one of the most iconic sights in the Faroe Islands. When you reach the edge of the cliff where men planted the lonely lighthouse, you will get one of the most otherworldly experiences in nature. Enjoy breathtaking views of the sheer rock wall Borgarin that goes vertically into the open ocean and the neighbouring islands.

You will feel amazing when standing firmly on the island's plateau with breathtaking views. Watch the many birds fly underneath you and above your head. Travellers say they get an immense feeling of serenity on this tour.

When you get back to the village Trøllanes at 13:00pm, a friendly driver awaits you. The driver will take you to the village Mikladalur. You will spend some hours independently in Mikladalur enjoying the tranquil village life.

Make sure to take the epic stairs in Mikladalur down to the Seal Woman statue standing next to the unbelievable coastline. After your visit in Mikladalur, a driver will pick you up and take you to the ferry port.

SUMMER 01 MAY - 31 AUGUST The duration of the tour depends on which day you join it. Monday and Wednesday: You will take the return ferry from Kalsoy Island to Klaksvík at 15:10. Saturday: You will take the ferry from Kalsoy Island to Klaksvík departing at 15:30.

WINTER 01 SEPTEMBER - 30 APRIL The duration of the tour depends on which day you join it. Monday and Wednesday: You will take the return ferry from Kalsoy Island to Klaksvík at 15:50. Saturday: You will take the ferry from Kalsoy Island to Klaksvík departing at 14:20.

Once back in Klaksvík, pick up your car at the parking lot metres away from where the ferry arrives. Easy and convenient!

Leaving your car at the free-of-charge parking lot in Klaksvík next to the ferry is the absolute best way to experience Kalsoy Island. No worries about waiting for hours to get your vehicle onboard the small ferry SAM from Klaksvík to Kalsoy Island.

Jump onboard the ferry hassle-free. No queue and no rush. Walk past the vehicle queue that evolves more than one and a half hour prior to ferry departure. There is always a seat for you in the ferry as a foot passenger.

    Maybe, if the weather is fine, this is the most beautiful trekking in Faroe Islands but, when the weather is bad, it can be really dangerous and the path should be closed, because it is muddy and extremely slippery. Guides should tell everyone that it doesn’t make any sense to climb up the hill to see nothing. I’ve seen many people falling down and getting wet and muddy, fortunately without getting hurt. When it is wet, it is not an average difficulty trail, but a very difficult one. Just keep that in mind…

    It was a interesting Tour and many thanks to Magnus, Rani and Johannus! Probably because of bad weather, the hike was more difficult and time consuming, so I was a little bit in a hurry at Mikladur. But also here the soup was fantastique! Everything was well organised and an detailed information per Mail, the day before was appreciated. As a individuel Traveler, it wood have been a big help, to get the actuel Bus to and from Thorshavn on the booked day.

    We had a wonderful and well organized trip to Kallur and the rest of Kalsoy. A few years ago we dus the trip ourselves, with own car. Now we didn’t want to worry about busses and time tables etc. So we booked the tour: it was great! Very interesting because our guide and landowner and farmer was enthousiast and told lot about the area. The buss driver dus make an extra stopover and was also Very nice. We enjoyed the whole trip and were in time for the ferry back to kalsvik! No waiting with our own car to catch a Ferry!

    What a wonderful trip to kallur lighthouse today! 4 years ago we were there alone with own rentacar. We loved it and came back. But with this enthousiast and kind guide( landowner) and the busses perfect arranged, this was an even better day! We learned a lot ! Thanks a lot!

    We loved our guided hike with the landowner. He kept a good pace and had about six stopping points along the climb to the lighthouse and James Bond memorial, with interesting stories about life in the area during each stop and plenty of time to take photos. The hike is steep at points, so consider bringing trekking poles. We had some time at the lighthouse to rest, eat lunch, and/or go on an optional mini hike. This is a stress-free way to see the island as you can board the ferry as a passenger, eliminating the need to arrive 2+ hours head of time to secure a spot for your vehicle and, more importantly, avoid driving on the narrow, one-lane, cliff-side roads and tunnels of Kalsoy. I highly recommend booking a tour and leaving your vehicle behind. Make sure to check out the handmade knits at the ferry port!

    It was great to have locals drive us around and tell us stories about the place. The tour was well organised.
    The island itself is spectacular.

    I would have appreciated a bit more time at the lighthouse (top of the hike) to walk around and see the different points of view.

    Overall, I would totally recommend it to a friend.

    Sensational scenery (lucking out with the weather helped, clear, sunny & no fog).

    Due to only having 2 people on our hike section Johannes (landowner) took advantage of the good weather to get some work done so we were adopted by another group which worked out very well. Johan was a great guide, and we met good time to allow plenty of time at the lighthouse and other peaks.

    Logistically/organisation wise it was a bit different. Not having a guide with us from start to finish we were left at the whim of other groups travelling on our mini bus, which resulted in us sitting around for an hour before heading back to the ferry.

    This wasn’t a massive issue, but if it had been communicated we could have made better use of our time in Mikladalur. This also meant that we just missed a bus back to Torshavn from Klaksvik meaning another hour there. And unfortunately it was late enough in the afternoon that most places were closed.

    It sounds like I’m running the tour down, I had a great day & it’s a fabulous place. It was the lack of communication around the idle time rather than the time itself that was a bit frustrating.

    Anyway, I’d highly recommend it if you’ve the time

    We met our guide in Trøllanes and then walked to the light house. Johánnus answered all our questions along the way. He talked about farming, herding sheeps, the history of the island, the filming of the James Bond movie…When we were back in the village he showed us a small shop where you could buy a home made rhubarb marmalade.
    After that we were driven to Mikladalur. Our driver Magnus was very friendly and he even showed us a secret tunnel with a picturesque view at the end.
    We overall enjoy our trip to Kalsoy very much. It was one of the most adventurous days of our journey to the Faroe Islands.

    Excellent excursion with a knowledgeable and engaging guide. Despite strong winds we were safely guided all the way to the lighthouse and were able to experience the breathtaking landscape of Kallur.
    The logistics of the daytrip was well organised with time to visit to the Sealwoman and cafe in Mikladalur on our way to Trøllanes . All in all fantastic trip!

    One of the most wonderful day trips we have ever done. This is a must do while in Faroe.
    Amazing scenery. Jóhannus, the guide and property owner is wonderful and making sure everyone was safe. He spent the day teaching us about the Islands, the farm, history, traditions and lots of other fun facts.
    A must do when you visit the Faroes.

    Absolutely incredible – cannot recommend this tour enough! Definitely bring snacks/lunch with you though, as we had quite a lot of time in Mikladalur and none of the small food options were open. An incredible day, definitely book this tour if you can!

    Hvis det var muligt at give flere stjerner skulle denne tur have det. Guiden Juhannes Kallsgaard guidede os ud til Kallur Lighthouse, og fortalte undervejs om livet som fårebonde på en færøsk ø, og hvordan livet foregår her og hvordan det har været gennem tiderne. Vi fik også set James Bond gravstenen som er en ide Juhannes og en kammerat fik efter et par øl 🙂
    En tur der er alle anstrengelserne værd.

    Overall, I really enjoyed the Kalsoy Island and Lighthouse tour because of the scenery and the guide. We were very lucky to have the farmer and owner of the land as our guide. It was interesting hearing about life on the island, now and in the past. The views around the island, the lighthouse and of the other nearby islands were stunning! The hike itself I would classify as medium difficulty because it is steep and the paths are very narrow, since it is along the ridges on the sides of the hills. It was fine for those used to hiking, However, we had three people on the tour who were not prepared at all. They were so slow and could not even hike by themselves, needing lots of help from Johannus. The “less than one hour hike” took them almost 2 hours one way! Although I felt bad for them, he probably should have told them that we needed to stick to time so if they couldn’t make it all the way then they could turn back part way. Due to them taking so long, it was stressful for everyone else. We waited in the bus and the driver told us if we didn’t leave right away, we would likely miss the ferry. We also had to skip seeing the village shop and the seal statue to rush in the bus to the port. Luckily we made it as the next ferry wasn’t for 3 hours and there were 10 other people in the bus to consider. In the future, the hike should probably specify that a minimum level of fitness is required for a 5km hilly hike of medium difficulty. It does not say anything about this on the tour description so the three people seemed surprised that they had to hike. We were all very grateful to the bus driver for getting us there safely and quickly- Thanks Magnus!

    Just did this tour and was so incredibly happy. I’m not sure if it’s usually like this but I think we just got lucky that our group of 4 had the tour all to ourselves. It was so nice to get off the ferry and climb onto a comfortable and basically empty shuttle bus rather than the public bus FULL of people. Our guide, Johannes, was the owner of the land we were hiking on and the sheep we were passing. His demeanor was sweet and open and he answered all my questions about farming, land ownership, puffins all without batting an eye or thinking I was a silly American tourist. I can’t say enough good things about the tour.

    We booked The Kallur Lighthouse Tour. We met our driver Magnus at Syðradalur and he’s so kindhearted that we’re making friends quickly. Jóhannus (The tour guide and the landowner also) has lead us to the top, to see Kallur lighthouse, all amazing view from above and also the James Bond’s Gravestone. I can’t believe that I can really managed to go up there since I’m not the hiker. But Jóhannus always encouraged us so much and we finally get up there! It’s so breathtaking.

    We’re so happy and really have wonderful time with the tour.

    It was absolutely fantastic. Not only did we have basically an almost private tour, but the hike itself (and the lighthouse) was beautiful and the weather was perfect. Our guide was wonderful, not only because of the stories he was able to tell but also because he made sure that my wife and I were comfortable the entire time (which was especially important since we had our 1 year old daughter with us).
