Explore the most awe-inspiring sights on Kalsoy Island with comfort and ease. This tour includes the famous Kallur Lighthouse standing only metres from the black promontory hundreds of metres above sea level.

Park your car at the large parking lot free of charge in the town Klaksvík on Borðoy Island next to the ferry. Walk straight onboard the ferry to Kalsoy Island departing at 10:00am.

When you step on land on Kalsoy Island 20 minutes later, a shuttle bus awaits you. A local experienced driver will take you through the dark and narrow tunnels connecting the valleys on Kalsoy Island. You will head all the way to the remote village Trøllanes.

When you get to Trøllanes at 11:00am, a local tour guide will greet you. From this uncrowded little village, your guide will take you along the mountain path to Kallur Lighthouse on the very tip of this outlying island.

For those who want something extra, add the Puffin Viewpoint during the booking process. The guide will then take you to a hidden puffin colony on Kalsoy Island. Please note that puffins are only here during the three month period from June to August.

Remember to bring some food and water. You will need it for the hours on the island.

This less than one hour hike will take you to one of the most iconic sights in the Faroe Islands. When you reach the edge of the cliff where men planted the lonely lighthouse, you will get one of the most otherworldly experiences in nature. Enjoy breathtaking views of the sheer rock wall Borgarin that goes vertically into the open ocean and the neighbouring islands.

You will feel amazing when standing firmly on the island's plateau with breathtaking views. Watch the many birds fly underneath you and above your head. Travellers say they get an immense feeling of serenity on this tour.

When you get back to the village Trøllanes at 13:00pm, a friendly driver awaits you. The driver will take you to the village Mikladalur. You will spend some hours independently in Mikladalur enjoying the tranquil village life.

Make sure to take the epic stairs in Mikladalur down to the Seal Woman statue standing next to the unbelievable coastline. After your visit in Mikladalur, a driver will pick you up and take you to the ferry port.

Not at all worth the money, the ferry is 106,-, the hike is 200,- per pers., there is a public bus and you can easily plan everything yourself and find the spot explanations online.
Bad planning during the trip and no communication post trip, pure ghosting.

I was hesitant after booking the tour given its high cost compared with a very similar itinerary that can be executed independently at a much reduced cost. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the tour. The walk itself is not challenging for those of moderate fitness with appropriate outfitting, but those with any mobility issues and inappropriate attire will find it a difficult trek. The value in the tour comes from the close interaction with the affable landowner/farmer who guides the trek. He provided engaging details on ovine husbandry, acting as a fixer for the film industry, and on the land and village.

This tour is a must if you don’t want the hassle of taking your own car to the island ( definitely not recommended due to uncertainty to getting space on the ferry to and from the island at a convenient time) or taking public transportation ( you can be waiting for a while to the two destinations Mikladular and Trøllanes). The organisation of the tour was seamless from our ferry tickets being handed out at the quay as advised, the personalised white bus waiting on arrival at Kalsoy and the guide ready when we got to Trollanes. Magnus our bus driver was a real character and apart from being a resident in the small township of Mikladular is also the organist at the beautiful quaint church there. When we got to the village to see the Seal Woman statue he also opened the church and played the organ while we looked inside. We then headed to Trollanes to meet Johannus our guide who is also the land owner where the iconic Lighthouse is situated. The land has been in his family for 400 years and during the trek up he stopped several times to provide detailed background of life in this isolated part of the world. An added bonus was his knowledge was very much called upon for the closing scenes of the James Bond film ‘No time to die’ which unfortunately leads to Bonds demise. Johannus regaled us with many antidotes about the filming and how the James Bond tombstone came into being. The trek itself takes 1 hour and although exhausting can be done by most hikers- I would rate it medium difficulty given the elevation of the lighthouse and the in parts slippery conditions due to rain the night before. That said Johannus ensures the pace of the climb suits all trekers. One of the people in our group was 83 years old and he handled in style! ( Johannus said this was the oldest tourist he had on his tour apart from a 90 + year old local The views once you get there certainly make it worthwhile and the James Bond memorial is a supplementary bonus. This was an outstanding tour and the organisation, ease of travel and friendliness and knowledge of both Magnus and Johannus made it well worth the cost

A spectacular tour which we highly recommend. The hike, along with our guide’s stories and insights into life on Kalsoy, were spectacular. The lighthouse and cliffside views are breathtaking. We had initially considered trying to tour Kalsoy on our own, but after (thankfully) deciding to do this tour instead, I would not even consider attempting it on your own given the tunnels, hiking trail, and access to the guide’s information. We highly recommend this tour.

We really enjoyed the hike to the lighthouse. It was a beautiful day for the Faroes. It was nice to see the Seal Woman statue and hear the story behind it. The guide was very engaging. There was a 200m stretch where there was some pretty deep mud that was more treacherous and we are older, but the guide really helped us out to make sure we did ok. The rest of the hike was a breeze (some hills, but very doable). My wife is scared of heights, and she was worried about the hike. The hike to the lighthouse and James Bond “gravestone” are fine in terms of acrophobia. It’s only if you decide go take one of the two optional trails that go to the end of the 2 points, where there is a shear dropoff on both sides of the trail, where there are issues with being concerned about heights/acrophobia. We had perfectly awesome views from the lighthouse and other areas.

Great guide, trip worth your while. Only drawback, it’s busy on a nice day but the guide tried to avoid the crowds with his timing

Being able to discover this part of the Faroe Islands with the owner of the site enabled us to learn a lot of fascinating things about life on the island of Kalsoy, as well as see the spectacular scenery. The walk was organised so that everyone could go at their own pace. And even without being a particular James Bond fan, the stories about the filming and more generally the film industry in the Faroe Islands were really very interesting. Thank you for a wonderful day.

The guides and customers were very kind and it was a great memory. Thank you very much.

I really enjoyed this tour. Everything went smoothly and it was a great day. Taking a bus with a guide is much better than trying to drive through the narrow tunnels on Kalsoy Island. We had magnificent weather and spectacular views. It’s a bit of a walk up to the lighthouse and the James Bond gravesite but anyone with average fitness could easily manage it. The visit to Mikladalur was good too – I bought some home made cake and rhubarb jam from the lovely lady at the kiosk. Our guide was entertaining and informative and the driver was a lovely man too. Highly recommend!

  13. Florence MATUSIAK

Very nice day on Kalsoy. The weather was really good, our guide Help was really nice and the hike was really great with beautiful views !

  14. BC

Heavy rain but very enjoyable tour. I liked hearing many details about the filming of James Bond on the island from our guide.

  15. D Fabricius

Despite rain and heavy wind, the tour was worth it all! The hike to the lighthouse, the stunning views and the cute puffins – all was beautiful.
The guide with his stories and humor made the trip very pleasant and the driver took us safely around the island.
