I really enjoyed this tour. The guides were very friendly and looked after us well. The vehicles were comfortable and the group size was perfect. It covered the bases of everything I wanted to see, and as a solo traveller it was great to have everything organised in this way.

We spent a fantastic week on the Faroe islands with our guides. As a family of four with kids aged 14 and 11, this package was an excellent mix of easy to moderate hikes (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) intermixed with rest days with more of a stop & go schedule (Tuesday and Thursday). The Monday on Vágar was the longest hike at around 8 km but also the easiest as the hiking fees have been invested in a prepared trail most of the way. Friday on Kalsoy with the hike out to Kallur lighthouse was the shortest but also the most challenging hike, mainly due to the wet and foggy conditions on the continuous incline.

Reading up ahead of our trip it was clear that the weather would be quite unpredictable and we certainly experienced that during the week. We had everything from rain, to fog, to sunshine. This was mid July and day temperatures ranged between 8C and 15C. We are used to being outdoors and dressed in layers so it was not a problem. Wearing wool also makes it possible to stay warm even after getting wet. We were caught by severe fog twice with very unfortunate timing. First, on Suðuroy as we had just come up the mountain to Beinisvørð for the spectactular view. Second, on Kalsoy where the Kallur lighthouse was completely shrouded in dense fog making it impossible to enjoy the views. However, both days also had moments with absolutely perfect conditions. The lunch in Mikladur after the hike out to the lighthouse was one of the most serene and picturesque moments of the entire week.

We have nothing but good things to say about the experienced local guides and got to meet several members of the family during the week. It is clear that they are proud of their heritage and their local network and broad knowledge of various projects on the islands gave us unique insights and experiences each day. It is inspiring to meet a family where generations have making their livelihood on the sea, and now help tourists get the best possible touristic experience combined with understanding of how it is to live in this small island society. We also got great advice for restaurants in Tórshavn and were able to change some of our reservations based on this. We can definitely recommend booking ahead as some restaurants are quite popular.

We decided to spend Saturday on our own, splitting up into two groups. Shopping and museums for part of the family, and another day of hiking (Argir to Kirkjubøur and back around the mountain) for the other. We were again caught in a bit of fog and rain on the hike, but it was still an enjoyable way to wrap the week.

All in all our trip to the Faroe islands was amazing and we definitely recommend this package and JH Tours to make the most out of your stay.

The highlights of this trip were the hikes on Vagar and Kalsoy Islands.

The biggest disappointment was not going to Mykines. The guide said we wouldn’t be able to see puffins there and advised us to substitute a different tour that day. Unfortunately, it turned out the guide intentionally misled us (I think due to his displeasure with the rules for visiting Mykines) and others who went to Mykines with different guides were able to see puffins. I was extremely disappointed in the lack of integrity from the guide and that they sold a tour they didn’t intend to provide.
The day trips to Streymoy and Suderoy were a lot of sitting, I would have preferred more walking.
