Come along for an exciting tour to the amazing Vágar Island. You will join a driver guide on a small group tour where you will avoid the crowds.

Offering some of the most striking views in the Faroe Islands, this tour to Vágar Island should be on any visitor’s to-do list. The tour includes Trælanípan the slave cliff and the remote village Gásadalur. This popular island is rich in history and legends. This tour also includes some of the most celebrated waterfalls and viewpoints in the Faroe Islands, and great foot to boot. Everything comes in a one-day experience.

Pick-up starts in the morning. Your tour guide will take you straight out of Tórshavn driving over the mountain road towards the underwater tunnel to Vágar Island. There are beautiful view over the fjords along the route.

Your first stop on Vágar Island is the fairy-tale village Gásadalur, home to the breathtaking waterfall Múlafossur. This famous fall provides among the most majestic views in the Faroe Islands. Gásadalur got its mountain tunnel in 2006. Before that, you were unable to drive to the village. The locals had to hike the mountain every time they needed to leave the village.

From Gásadalur you will head to Lake Leitisvatn. From the largest lake in the Faroe Islands, you will hike the easy trail to Trælanípan. Here you will have an out-of-this-world view of the famous ‘floating lake’ Leitisvatn. Trælanípan translates to the slave cliff. According to legend, disobedient slaves and other rule-breakers in the Viking age were pushed of the 142-meter-high cliff as punishment. In addition to the famous view of the hovering lake, you can also look out to the ocean from Trælanípan and see five of the Faroes’ southern Islands. We’ll take lunch in this stunning and scenic landscape.

On the hike we’ll also see the 30-meter-high Bøsdalafossur waterfall which tumbles directly into the North Atlantic Ocean.  We’ll also get to see the impressive sight of the free standing sea stack Geituskoradrangur.

The hike takes about 3 hours in total and is super easy. Upon completion of the hike we’ll head back to Tórshavn where we will arrive in the afternoon. You will have plenty of time to enjoy the evening in the capital city.

The Faroe Islands are so beautiful they are difficult to describe in only a few words. The people are also lovely and very helpful. Kim was a wonderful tour guide and very knowledgeable. He had many options to offer depending on the weather of the day. I would highly recommend!
