From Skopun to Líraberg Cliff
Find your way through the underwater tunnel from Streymoy Island to Sandoy Island. When on Sandoy Island head to the settlement Skopun. Once in the settlement Skopun, park your car at the harbour. There are lots of parking lots at the harbour and parking is free.
Set off on foot through the colourful houses in Skopun. You will see Sandoy Island’s unique terrain, dotted with mossy meadows and rocky outcrops as you find your way north. There are small lakes here too.
The road from Skopun to the trailhead is 2,3 km / 1,4 mi. Once you have walked from Skopun to the end of the tarred road, wooden sticks will guide you the last part of the hike. The last part of the hike with grassy surface is only 0,7 km / 0,4 mi.
Enjoy the fresh air and sounds of birds and sheep as you walk towards the vantage point well marked with red-painted wooden poles. These sticks will guide you up the hill to the vantage point.
The Grassy Hike to the Cliff
When leaving the tarred road for the grassy uphill terrain, you will follow the red-painted ploes found in the grass.
At one point, you will cross a stile which is designed to allow travellers to pass over a fence that keeps certain sheep away from the nearby area. Once you are on the other side of the stile, keep following the wooden poles to the views ahead.
Be aware of the Faroe Islands’ unpredictable weather. Conditions can change rapidly, so it is essential to wear sturdy footwear and windproof clothing. Mist and high winds can sweep across the cliffs before you know it, no matter which season you visit the Faroe Islands.
Keep a safe distance to the edge to avoid any slips. Check the weather in Skopun before tying the laces on your hiking boots.
