Mother nature played her own game & blanketed the views in fog & heavy mist right before approaching the lighthouse, which gave it an eerie feel. There were fleeting moments where I could partially see the monster cliffs, but nothing distant, & sadly missed out on that iconic backdrop. Captured a couple moody pictures at best. We did wait it out a bit to see if it would clear, but sadly not. I’ll be honest & admit that that was a disappointment, considering the effort for me to hike up there. I’m not too fit at the moment & I found the trail rather challenging. I can appreciate that the weather is ever changing here & sometimes it’s just luck of the draw. I’ve experienced reality & not the Instagram “reality”. So I can’t dwell on that. Now what I’m NOT disappointed with was my guide Jógvan. He is tops!…sociable, encouraging, ensured my safety, & very patient considering the number of times I had to stop along the way, not to mention happy to do the hike even though it was only me. Afterwards, he took me to see the seal woman in his village, then to his home where I sampled, some local traditional delicacies (dried fish, dried lamb, whale meat, blubber, potatoes, fish soup, & Faroese beer)…all delicious…all prepared by his lovely wife. He then saw me safely back to the ferry for Klaksvik. This whole experience was very much appreciated & will be a part of some of my best memories from my time in the Faroes.

Wow! Highlight if our trip! We wanted to see this sight but didn’t want to deal with the large crowds. This was a perfect option. Our guide had a positive attitude, was friendly, and has such passion and respect for the land. He gave great information and shared lots of stories. He showed us all of the best spots and dramatic landscapes and at the end of the tour, only our small group and a bunch of sheep were at the sight. It felt magical. The food tasting at the end of our tour was fantastic. The fish soup was delicious and we had the opportunity to sample other locals food. We left really understanding and appreciating Faroese life past and present.

It was a 6-stars experience with Jogvan’s guide. He is a perfect guide and also like a friend, he shared his experience and life with us and answered every questions, conversations were interactive.
Summer evenings are definitely the perfect moment to visit the lighthouse, during daytime it was cloudy and rainy but when we reached the area we could see sun and had good pictures.
About the food, we were wondering if we needed to bring our dinner in case the samples are just samples, turns out we had good drinks and food with beautiful dusk view.

We had a great experience under Jogvan’s guidance. He’s a great storyteller and very engaged with tourists. He showed the high wow factor viewing points of Kalsoy. After the hike, we ended with enjoying very nice local food and drinks.

This was an excellent tour! We first wanted to go on our own, but the ferry didn’t carry cars so we decided to book a tour. This was our choice because it was for only 4 guests and in the evening.
Jógvan took good care of all of us. On the hike he made stops whenever we needed one and he talked about what it is like living here. At the lighthouse he advised us on which places are safe to go and which ones are only for experienced people without fear of heights. We were almost for ourselves and had lots of time to take pictures and to look for the geocache that is hidden here. Jógvan even climbed down to get the box for me because I was afraid to climb down!
After the hike we had a short visit at the seal lady and then we enjoyed some excellent local food. I wasn’t expecting more than tiny bits to try, but we were offered a fish soup with bread in addition to traditional food like dried fish and lamb.
Unfortunately time ran out way too quickly and it was time to get to the ferry.
Highly recommend, thank you Jógvan for the wonderful evening!

We really enjoyed our tour with Jogvan. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. A beautiful hike to the lighthouse was followed by a trip to the seal woman sculpture and a tasting of traditional Faroese food at his home that included fish soup, lamb, whale, and cheese along with Faroese beer and a wine that was paired perfectly with the cheese. Highly recommend this tour.

What a unique experience! The walking tour with the local farmer was a true discovery of the island. With great passion he talked about his life on the island, which created a warm and authentic atmosphere. The walk ended with a charming food tasting and surprisingly tasty local beer.
A perfect combination of nature, culture and gastronomy. Highly recommended for those looking for a cozy and tasty outing!

You should book this tour with the faroese tasting 🙂 the guide is amazing, the hospitalityis amazing and what you see is even more amazing ! There was only one other person other than us at the light house and we were very lucky with the weather too… you can even see Risin Og Kellingin from there…. we have amazing photos and memories thanks to our guide …We were also informed about so many things that we did not know…. Thankyou for an amazing day 🙂

A wonderful experience with Jogvan on this jewel island of the Northern Isles. Jogvan was very proactive in suggesting a change of date due to the weather. Therefore we enjoyed a very sunny day with blue sky and no wind. The hike was easy to the lighthouse and we enjoyed amazing views over the sea and the surrounding moutains. We were lucky to spot some puffins flying.
After the hike, Jogvan drove us to his town where we saw the beautiful seal woman statue. Then he offered us some local specialities, including smoked lamb and cheeses he aged himself as well as Faroese beer. He drove us to the pier on time for the ferry. Probably the best guided tour we’ve had in years, with a knowledgeable guide, eager to share with us a piece of Faroese experience!

Great trip!
Jogvan guided us from the ferry to the lighthouse with incredible views. He offered plenty of local knowledge and conversation and worked to make sure that everyone in our group had a great time. After our hike to the lighthouse we visited the Seal Woman statue and enjoyed the sunset in the village. If you can, try some of his aged cheese, it was fantastic.

This trip was one of the highlights of my time in the Faroe Islands.
My guide Jogvan met me at the ferry in Klaksvik and we took the short ride over to Kalsoy where he drove me to the village of Trøllanes to start the hike. I was travelling alone so I was worried that I might not find him, but the ferry is tiny so that wasn’t a problem and he immediately put me at ease chatting away. It was pouring with rain when we arrived in Kalsoy but remarkably as we passed through the final tunnel to Trøllanes the rain stopped! After a quick bathroom break we set off on the hike. I was a bit nervous as I am scared of heights but I didn’t find the hike challenging at all, I am not a hiker but I am fairly fit. Yes it’s muddy but I was wearing hiking shoes, although gumboots (welly boots) might have been a better choice and it was a little challenging in parts but you can’t fall off a cliff unless you go right to the edge (I didn’t!)
(There is a very skinny section of land behind the lighthouse that you see in all the photos that you can walk along with a drop on either side but you don’t need to go out there as you still have the most spectacular views without doing that bit. I didn’t go out there with my fear of heights!)
The BEST part about hiking at this time of night was that we set off at 6pm and reached the lighthouse in less than 40 minutes and we were the ONLY ones there. I had the entire view to myself (plus a few sheep) so I could take my time, even sit down, take a breath and enjoy the scenery and the silence which was very special.
After the hike we went to visit the seal woman. As I was travelling in late September it was dark by then but she is lit up so it was a very spooky view of her and not one many others would have photos of! From there we went to one of Jogvan’s cottages where I met his lovely wife who had prepared some traditional Faroese food for me and I tried some Forøya beer. In chatting with them I was able to get an insight into their daily life on the island and we also listened to some Faroese music. It was a really lovely evening and one that I will cherish. Don’t hesitate to book this trip!
