    Hello, we had again a great day with Elsa Maria. It was our second stay on the spectular Islands. This time we explored Sandoy Island – through the new tunnel and than really the whole Island with a very tasty lunch with very friendly hosts.
    We have learnt a lot of historie and heard Stories about living. Thank you and we will be back😀

    Greatly enjoyed seeing the hidden spots and learning about so much local history. The engineering of the new tunnel was a marvel. Being invited into someone’s home for a home-cooked Faroese meal and chatting with the host and spouse over lunch made the day extra special. Glad I made the trip to scenic Sandoy .

    This was a fantastic day tour of Sandoy. Our guide, Jens Petur, was so knowledgeable about Faroese history, culture, economics, religion, etc. and really made it all come alive as we visited ancient Viking settlements and current villages throughout the island. A highlight for our family was the heimablidni. Our hostess, Helga and her husband, warmly invited us into their home where we were treated to a delicious traditional Faroese meal.
    On this tour, be prepared to see beautiful ocean vistas, sand beaches, ancient ruins and tidy villages. It is a 5+ star tour!

    The Sandoy is an untouched and unspoiled island with a true Viking vibe all around. The tour of the picturesque coastal villages offered a very special counterbalance to the landscapes of the northern islands and included a unique opportunity to experience the local hospitality or the “heimablídni” over a delicious meal in a family home. The view from one of the beaches as the fog suddenly lifted revealing the smooth waters and a small ferry on its way to the neighboring island was magical.

    My husband and I went on the Sandoy Full Day tour on June 11, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to the Faroe Islands. We highly recommend this trip to Sandoy Island, as it gives you a comprehensive view of the island. Our guide, Jens Petur, was a many-generational Faroe Islander who was extremely knowledgeable about the history and about what we should see and do. Included was a memorable lunch in the home of a local couple with home prepared food that is typical of Faroe Islands. This was a unique experience that most tourists are not able to experience and made this particular tour very special. The Lang’s – California, USA

    Great day with Jens Petur who made an impressive effort to make the tour as interesting and enjoyable as possible. Sandoy was different from the more northerly islands I’d seen in that the mountain slopes were less steep and the opportunities for farming were greater. Lots of stories concerning the cultural and social history of the island and great views, especially of the surrounding islands. The whole trip was a pleasure.

The lunch with a local couple, Budwar and Helga, was fantastic. They were very hospitable and typical of the friendliness of the Faroese people. I highly recommend this tour.

    It is a very interesting tour, visiting ancient and traditional parts of the island. The lunch in the house of the Faroese family, with home made products adds intimacy and authenticity to the trip. Elsa Maria was a wonderful guide, energetic, very professional, well informed, kind, generous. Her presence and personality mixed with the richness of the tour, covering landscapes, unique places, tradition, history, makes this day tour outstanding. I certainly recommend it to be taken and on a personal level, I hope to come back and enjoy it with my daughter.

    I could look around at all the sites without having to watch the road if I was self-driving. The running commentary from a true local completed the tour for me – if I did the sights myself with a self-driving tour, I would have missed out on so much valuable information to do with history, traditions and cultural aspects of the sites and villages.

    Elsa and her brother are very personable tour guides without becoming overwhelming in delivering a lot of facts and stories. A good guide really makes the tour special, and I have come away with lasting good memories of Faroe.

    We had an amazing time on Sandoy Island Tour! Although we were only 2 persons ,the tour was not cancelled, which we truly appreciated.
    Our guide, Elsa Maria, was absolutely fantastic warm, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. She shared a lot of historical information but what made it special was her funny and captivating way of telling stories. We were laughing, learning, and enjoying every moment.

    You really see all interesting and beautiful places,quite a good tour.But I would prefer it to be longer and to have more time on every place and not to stay 1 hour of the 7 at a restaurant for lunch. But all in all I can rcommend it to see a lot of Sandoy.

    My wife and I participated in the “See It All” tour led by Elsa Maria on May 7th. It left a very memorable impression on us. My wife said that Elsa is very passionate about her job and pays great attention to details. Not only did she show us the magnificent natural scenery of the Faroe Islands, but also let us experience the local cultural features, including samples of the unique food tradition and delicious chocolate. Although we left the Faroe Islands, this day’s journey was truly unforgettable, especially the profound impression Elsa left on us.     A must tour when in Faroe either on short or long visit! Plenty of stops (coffee and sweets offered as well as some tasteful surprises plus time to enjoy a meal), lots of places to see and admire (either well known and some only local known), different kinds of weather en route but that’s the spice of it along with the excellent story narratives! Sometimes can last a little bit more than 7 hours, but it is worthwhile!

    This was an excellent tour and great introduction to the beauty of the Faroe Islands. Our guide, Jan-Peter (spelling?) was very knowledgeable and shared personal experiences from growing up in the islands, which included a lot of traditions still maintained. We saw so much and yet nothing was rushed. The tour included lunch (at own expense) at a traditional restaurant, which was great. Went to places I’m sure we would never have found on our own. Totally worth it.

    Elsa Maria’s tour was excellent. Really comprehensive visit of Eysturoy, Streymoy and Vagar, with many stops in beautiful villages and viewpoints. Elsa Maria was very knowledgeable, flexible and even offered us some hot drinks and snacks. Also she provides pick up from every acommodation and the tour lasted even longer than expected (around 8 hours in our case). Overall, totally recommended to do the tour with her, which has a fantastic price/quality ratio for the Faroes.

    100% recommend! Look no further; just book this tour! Elsa is very knowledgeable about the local history and culture, and she will take you out even though you are the only participant of the tour or the weather is not nice. The itinerary is well structured and covers a couple of classic tourist spots that are not easily accessible with buses (still feasible to some extent but is very time consuming), and the restaurant we stopped by is very authentic and full of historic vibe. I really enjoy my time during this tour, whether it’s the scenery itself or my talk with Elsa. In short, if you want to explore these small villages as much as possible with limited time, this tour will be the right choice for you.

    Simply outstanding – these are top notch tour guides with centuries of family history to share to boot – we were absolutely thrilled by the drive and stops and vistas and views of this super special spot on this earth.     I can definitely see why this is billed as the “see everything” tour (although I do recommend anyone looking to truly “see everything” also get to the Northern Isles, if possible!). This trip packed so much into 7 hours – from fairytale landscapes and waterfalls to the “fog valley” to incredible cultural history at beautiful ~300+ year old farms and churches. Elsa Maria was an incredible guide – so knowledgeable, so willing to share her stories and experiences, and pointed out several places where her own family had lived and worked across our itinerary. She was also very knowledgeable about the floral / fauna. She made sure everyone had water, tea / coffee / had extra sweaters for folks in the group who hadn’t dressed warmly enough, etc. Extremely thoughtful and caring guide and I wish I had more time in the Faroes to explore some of the sights we visited in more depth.

    What an amazing day. We saw all the best bits up close. Our guide was excellent, his sharing of his lifestyle really gave a great insight to local way of life. Which is way different to mine!
    One suggestion though, a shopping stop so souvenirs could be gathered please.
    Us cruise ship participants left our ship as soon as the gangplank dropped and we got back 10 minutes before curfew, hence no other chance to visit the shops.

    Felt like a movie sitting watching the beautiful sceneries and listening to him.
    Every place visited was stunning and you get to learn a lot through the entire experience. Very caring and generous, reflecting the generosity of the faroese ! not only you get to see the islands but you get to feel the passion towards the culture! I enjoyed the entire experience through which you will use all your senses.
    I definitely recommend the tour with Jens Peter because you will get to see good sceneries and mostly will be treated as a special guest in Faroe islands !

    This tour promised that you would “see it all” and it did not disappoint. Jens Petur shares his love and knowledge of the Faroe Islands with you as he drives you around 11 of the 18 Islands that make up the Faroes. We went through tunnels, visited small villages, saw beautiful waterfalls, all while being entertained with Jens Petur’s stories about this magical place. We were a group of eight and traveled. Comfortably in his van. Snacks and plenty of restroom stops were provided. For lunch, we were taken to a local restaurant that had the best seafood soup. It’s an all day trip, but we did not feel rushed and were brought back to our cruise ship right on time. For a fantastic overview of the Faroes, I can highly recommend this tour. You really do see it all and it is all fantastic!!

    We had a memorable 9 hours minibus ride and saw wonderful views with ElsaMaria. She told us everything you’d like to know about the island and stopped at all the places a tourist would like to see and photograph. We had a stop at a restaurant with good food, but there was also snacks and coffee along the way. It’s much more convenient to take this tour compared to renting a car and trying to find all the best spots by yourself. And on top of that you get historical information and old tellings from a true local, you get to know the islands and their inhabitants in a kind of personal way.

And they know how to drive the narrow one-lane roads with hazards that would be scary for us – sheep and lambs darting across the road, oncoming cars with no place to pull over, steep cliffside drop-offs. Each stop was interesting and beautiful, and they had just the right balance of information, humor, and warmth. Highly recommended, particularly at the beginning of your visit as an indispensable orientation.

She also provided tea and coffee and snacks and made plenty of stops for comfort breaks. She had each party rotate seats in the van so everyone got a turn riding up front with the sweeping views. We had 8 participants on our tour day and luckily everyone truly wanted to see it all and didn’t want to risk missing anything if we ran overtime. Elsa Maria took pictures throughout the day and organized them into a video link that she shared with us. It was a nice way to see where all we’d been. She also took pictures of us on our cameras and knew some cool angles for trick shots (especially by the waterfall). We had a delicious lunch at the cafe (Fiska stykkid) which is a place we’d read about and had wanted to visit anyway. We saw beautiful scenery and animals (sheep, puffins, Highland cattle, Faroese horses) and had a truly wonderful day. We highly recommend Elsa Maria’s tour!

    Together with my wife and daughter, I took a day-long minibus tour of three of the Faroe Islands led by Elsa Maria Bærentsen and her brother Jens Petur.
    We had high expectations, but nothing prepared us for the stunning landscapes, villages and sea vistas that we saw during the trip. They are truly awe-inspiring and breathtaking. The fish lunch in an unpretentious cafe was delicious too.
    What made it perhaps the best tour of its kind that we have ever experienced were the historical and cultural insights that Elsa Maria and Petur introduced us to in such an entertaining and sometimes humorous way as the day unfolded. Both have an intimate knowledge and understanding of their country – for the Faroe Islands are a country and not a far western outpost of Denmark – and of its traditions that have somehow been retained even while the prosperity of the islanders has grown.
    The Faroe Islands remain pristine and unspoilt – unlike so many other places that in a globalised world have lost their charm. Going on a tour with Elsa Maria and Petur adds greatly to the enjoyment of a visit. I can’t recommend doing so highly enough.

    This tour is the perfect introduction to the Faroe Islands. It should be done at the beginning of your stay so that you can see everything and decide where you’d like to go back to (although this remains a very difficult question, as all the places we visited were magnificent and worthy of a second visit!) Elsa guided the group efficiently and sympathetically, showing us lots of places that we wouldn’t have seen without her knowledge and giving us a wealth of information and anecdotes about the islands.     A group of us joined the tour organised by Elsa Maria and Jens Petur who took us around some of the beautiful islands near to Tórshavn. Both Elsa Maria and Jens Petur are very friendly and attentive and the tour is very professionally organised. Along the way, we were offered treats which was a nice touch. We have no reservation in recommending the tour.

    During our stay in Faroe Islands, Tórshavn was mostly hidden in the mist, but there seems to be micro-climates in different parts of the islands, and the weather improved once we were outside of Tórshavn. So don’t let the weather put you off joining a tour.

    I am very picky when it comes to guided tours and will rather not join one, except if it is local and small or private.
    Els Maria is just that. She is a local and an excellent tour guide. Not only will she tell you where you are and what you are seeing, she will also share her stories with her guests, making the experience come alive.

    You can clearly see her passion for her birthplace and rightfully so. Also, very protective of the islands, which is a good lesson for all of us.

    She is an excellent hostess, obviously loving what she does ( one cannot fake genuine passion) and also takes an interest in her guests. She is curious. It is a small group making it feel more intimate, like you are on a trip with friends.

    All in all, a very pleasurable experience. Learned a lot.

    I cannot rave enough about Elsa Maria and this tour. My wife was a little skeptical heading into it, but she has not stopped telling people about it since our return. There is absolutely no better way to see so much of the Faroe Islands in such a short timeline. Elsa Maria tirelessly guided us to so many locations. She shared so many interesting facts and stories. I was not bored for a single moment. She did a good job of helping everyone “break the ice” and get to know each other, which just added to the positive atmosphere of the tour experience. She is clearly a masterful guide and a lovely human being. I enjoyed her tour so much that I signed up to be notified for the next “closed for maintenance” season so I could perhaps return to your beautiful country. Her thoughtfulness of bringing along plenty of coffee, tea, snacks, blankets, jackets, etc shows that she has done this more than a few times. We were not adequately prepared for the hike and Elsa Maria brought us hiking boots to ensure that we would be able to truly enjoy and experience the hike safely. We got lucky and had musicians play incredible music in the restaurants!

    In the afternoon, we ventured to the remote and picturesque village of Gásadalur. The sight of Múlafossur Waterfall cascading down with the charming village in the backdrop was as iconic as it gets. She even took a short detour to show me Faroese horses knowing that I love animals. As for the lunch, I was so happy that I got to try the fish soup and it was delicious.

    All in all, she has exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend this tour. It was a truly a wonderful day and I’d love to come back to Faroe Islands again for another visit and sign up one of her tours again.

    Majestic 7 Hour Tour to the Northern Islands

    Outstanding tour! Our tour guide, Elsa Maria, provided a unique experience of 3 of the Northern most Islands: Kunoy,
    Bordoy and Vidoy.
    We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel which was nice, since we didn’t rent a car. The car we rode in was comfortable. Coffee, water and various snacks were provided throughout the trip. We stopped for lunch at a nice cafe in Klaksvík. Elsa Maria also took photos along the way to document the trip and sent a link with the photos after the tour. We never felt rushed and saw a variety of sites. Elsa Maria we very knowledgeable and provided a local’s insight on the different areas and on the Faroe Islands. We highly recommend this tour.

    Excelente tour
    Pudimos recorrer las islas que están más al norte, bonitas vistas de acantilados y el océano atlántico, pese a que nos tocó un día con mucha lluvia, viento y neblina, pudimos ver muchos lugares. Nuestra guía, Elsa Maria, es excelente, muy buena conductora, simpática y graciosa, nos mantuvo entretenidos durante las 7 horas. El tour igual incluye almuerzo.

    I loved this tour. The northern islands are gorgeous (and the weather the day of our tour was perfect) and our guide Jens Petur was so kind and knowledgeable. We stopped at a great spot for lunch (or cake in my case) and saw so many wonderful things. It really was such a great first full day in the Faroe Islands for me. 100% recommended!

    A must tour when in Faroe either on short or long visit! Plenty of stops (coffee and sweets offered as well as some tasteful surprises plus time to enjoy a meal), lots of places to see and admire (either well known and some only local known), different kinds of weather en route but that’s the spice of it along with the excellent story narratives! Sometimes can last a little bit more than 7 hours, but it is worthwhile!

    This was my second tour with Elsa and she did not disappoint at all. Again, I was fortunate to be the only guest for the day so it was really nice to spend the day with her. The Northern islands are really breath-taking and photos just cannot capture the beauty adequately. You need to be there to take the sights all in to appreciate the stunning landscapes. As my previous positive feedback, Elsa took a lot of photos to document the trip and share the link with me after for memories. She is always engaging, patient and very accommodating. This is a highly recommended tour.

    Weather was not on our side but nothing was too difficult for Elsa. She is quick, dynamic and energetic. She adjusts quickly, keeps everybody in the loop and makes the best of time. Elsa takes care and looks out for everyone. We had a 90 yr old gentleman from Utah, US and a 88 yr old lady from Norway. Nothing fazed her. Very charming and loving, stopping by to find out more about a sick horse by the road, letting me see the daily community tourists seldom witness. Very knowledgeable and she has the skills of a race car driver – fast, sharp, safe!

    A great day with Jens as our guide – he told us so many personal stories about the places we visited, and his love for the Faroe Islands really shone through. The north – wow – We were greeted with spectacular views and so much history. Thoroughly recommend the tour! Despite a gloomy start in Torshavn, we were lucky with some sunny weather when we got to the northern islands, although I know Jens would have made the trip special even in the rain.
