Fuglafjørður is a village on Eysturoy Island in the stunning Faroe Islands. Nestled in a fjord, this village is known for high surrounding mountains and as an important harbour for the local fishermen.

The name of the village translates to ‘The Bird Fjord’. As you wander through the village or along the shoreline, you will see several bird species flying in the fjord.

It takes around 40 minutes to drive from Tórshavn, the capital, to Fuglafjørður. Getting from the village to the northern isles takes even less time. From the moment you leave Fuglafjørður and until you are in Klaksvík, the hub in the northern part of the archipelago, takes 20 minutes or so. There is also a bus connection from Fuglafjørður to Klaksvík.

Hike to Hellurnar

There is a really good hike from Fuglafjørður. You will find your way from the village to nearby settlement Hellurnar.

This is one of the best hikes in the Faroe Islands. You can hike up the mountain Rustartindur (483 m / 1584 ft) along the route for breathtaking views. Once in Hellurnar, you will hike back to Fuglafjørður. The hike is moderate in difficulty.
