Porkeri is a settlement on Suðuroy Island in the nature-filled Faroe Islands. The settlement has a small harbour as well as a small wooden church painted black.

This settlement is know for a chain of houses made in the same style. These houses were built by captains sailing with Faroese fishing vessels in the 20th Century.

The vast expanse of the North Atlantic Ocean greets you in the settlement. Suðuroy Island is home to several grass-roofed churches and one of them sits in Porkeri. Its black painted facade stands in contrast to the surrounding greenery, whilst the green roof blends seamlessly with the grass fields surrounding it.

You will see the nearby fjord and a collection of salmon farming pens in it. Faroe Island salmon is the main export in the island group and ocean farming is important to the islanders on the southernmost island too.

This wanting to experience the settlement can do so by car or bus. Bus route 700 stops in Porkeri with most departures on weekdays.
