Fugloy Island is the easternmost and and one of the most isolated islands in the far-flung Faroe Islands. The island comes with stunning nature and an amazing bird life.

This remote island, surrounded by the vast North Atlantic Ocean, is home to dramatic cliffs and rolling hills. Fugloy Island is a place to visit for those seeking solitude and undisturbed natural.

Fugloy Island is home to two small settlements: Hattarvík and Kirkja. The two populated spots on the island are connected by the only road on the island.

You will sail to Fugloy Island for 45 minutes from a nearby Viðoy Island. The ferry RITAN sails from the settlement Hvannasund surrounded by steep mountains. As you find your way from Viðoy Island to this Nordic outpost, you will pass stunning coastal sceneries. Before you get to the easternmost island, the captain will stop on Svínoy Island as the RITAN takes care of the ferry service to both these islands.

Car-Free Fugloy Island

You will leave the car at the harbour in Hvannasund when you embark on the ferry to Fugloy Island. There are a handful of cars on the island for the locals but the ferry does not take cars. The main traffic on the island is not vehicles but birds flying around!

Fugloy Island translates to ‘The Bird Island’ in the local language Faroese. Needless to say, the island is a paradise for birdwatchers. The island’s cliffs are home to various bird species, especially during the nesting season in summer form May to August.
