Havnardalur Travel Guide

In the outskirts of Tórshavn on Streymoy Island lies the valley Havnardalur. You will find a quiet plantation and a gravel path running through the valley. Havnardalur sits only a 10 minutes drive from Tórshavn city centre.

The valley is lovely and peaceful. No need to put on any hiking boots to go on a stroll here. These paths are in great conditions and any types of shoes will do. The locals maintain the trails on a regular base.

The Sandá River runs from the Lake Havnadalsvatn on top of the valley and down through the plantation. Walking here and simply listening to the river adds to the scenery and makes it a relaxing place to visit.

Havnardalur is a quite well hidden place with very few people around. You might bump into some locals enjoying the fresh air or walking the dog. In addition, you will see few if any other travellers walking the network of paths in the peaceful valley.

There are several parking spots in the valley. Moreover, there are benches in the park where where you can have a seat along the route.

If you want to go by bus, jump on one of the red busses heading to Kirkjubøur from Steinatún bus central in Tórshavn. Make sure to leave the bus in the district Norðasta Horn. From here you will walk one kilometre through the valley to the plantation.

For those into longer walks, the valley is reachable after a 5 km (3.1 mi) from Tórshavn city centre. The walk from downtown Tórshavn comes with a gentle elevation.

The plantation is the second highest located plantation in the Faroe Islands followed by the one in Vágur on Suðuroy Island. The first tree were planted in the 70ties.
