THE highlight of my time here in the Faroes. It's such a beautiful experience...it made me cry. The day I had originally booked for got cancelled due to rough seas/weather. My host contacted me to sort out an alternative date rather than just cancelling & refunding. I'm glad I had time to spare. The village on Mykines is very quaint. There are alot of steps & steep climbing right from the port & inclined streets throughout the village. Can be tiring. Our local hosts/guide were absolutely lovely. Passionate about where they live, incredibly gracious, & happy to meet new people & share their culture & lifestyle. I loved the intimate experience (myself & 2 others) rather than being mixed in with tons of tourists during day hours. All food provided was beyond delicious (especially the fish soup!), the accommodation was great & bed very comfortable. It's set back from the village up on a hill. And the hike just kept going up from there. I found it hard at the beginning as it's quite steep for awhile, but once it levelled off, I saw puffins straight away... it gave me my second wind. The weather was a bit temperamental & it got dark quicker due to all the clouds which cut the hike a bit shorter. However, was able to see numerous puffins! Some muddy, slippery parts of the path. We took the shorter path back down to the village which can be hard on the knees. Hiking pole(s) is a good idea if you struggle with that. The next day the first ferry was cancelled. But the 3 of us were lucky to get a seat on the helicopter to take us back to Sorvagur (extra fee). What an experience! Thank you to our amazing hosts/guide for having us, sharing your knowledge, keeping us safe, taking the extra weight off for me, & making this an unforgettable experience!

Mother nature played her own game & blanketed the views in fog & heavy mist right before approaching the lighthouse, which gave it an eerie feel. There were fleeting moments where I could partially see the monster cliffs, but nothing distant, & sadly missed out on that iconic backdrop. Captured a couple moody pictures at best. We did wait it out a bit to see if it would clear, but sadly not. I'll be honest & admit that that was a disappointment, considering the effort for me to hike up there. I'm not too fit at the moment & I found the trail rather challenging. I can appreciate that the weather is ever changing here & sometimes it's just luck of the draw. I've experienced reality & not the Instagram "reality". So I can't dwell on that. Now what I'm NOT disappointed with was my guide Jógvan. He is tops!...sociable, encouraging, ensured my safety, & very patient considering the number of times I had to stop along the way, not to mention happy to do the hike even though it was only me. Afterwards, he took me to see the seal woman in his village, then to his home where I sampled, some local traditional delicacies (dried fish, dried lamb, whale meat, blubber, potatoes, fish soup, & Faroese beer)...all delicious...all prepared by his lovely wife. He then saw me safely back to the ferry for Klaksvik. This whole experience was very much appreciated & will be a part of some of my best memories from my time in the Faroes.

Elsa was an incredible guide—extremely generous with her time and kindness. She took us to beautiful must-see spots, sharing stories about the history and life on the islands along the way. It was a wonderful way to explore the Faroes for someone without a car (like myself), but it would also be a great introductory trip for anyone looking to scout out favorite places to return to later. Thank you, Elsa, for a beautiful day!
