Tórshavn Bus Terminal

The Tórshavn Bus Terminal (Farstøðin) is the main bus hub in the Faroe Islands, situated at the harbour in Tórshavn on Streymoy Island. The national bus and ferry service, Strandfaraskip Landsins, operate well-run bus services between Tórshavn and the other towns and villages on connected islands.

If you want to take a bus out of town, Tórshavn Bus Terminal is the place to go. This is where all long-distance buses terminate and start their journey. Here are some of the main bus routes to/from Tórshavn.

• Vestmanna – Tórshavn (Bus route 100)
• Vágar Airport – Tórshavn (Bus route 300)
• Klaksvík – Tórshavn (Bus route 400)

The long-distance buses are the blue buses. If you see a red bus, it belongs to the within-Tórshavn route network which are the Tórshavn City buses.

For visitors travelling without tours or rental cars, Strandfaraskip Landsins offers 4-day and 7-day Travel Passes. These passes allow you to travel on all buses and ferries (Mykines Island not included) throughout the Faroe Islands.

Most guided day tours start from Tórshavn. All these tours have the bus terminal as one of their pick-up locations.

Bus Terminal Services

At the bus terminal, you can buy snacks and drinks for the journey. There is also an information desk where you can get advice on what bus route to take to get to your destination.

The passenger ferry to the Faroe Islands, M/S Norröna, arrives at the port of Tórshavn. Travellers will step into the bus terminal when they disembark the ferry.

Sights near Tórshavn Bus Terminal

Right beside the bus terminal, you will find the historic Skansin Fortress and its lighthouse.

On the other side of the bus station, you can see the old grass-roofed government buildings of Tinganes and the oldest district in the city, Reyn.

Tórshavn’s main square, Vaglið, is a 5-minute walk away from the bus terminal. Here, you will find the main shopping street, Niels Finsens gøta, with plenty of clothes shops, craft shops, a library and cafés.
