Experiencing the car for the first time in the Faroe Islands’ breathtaking landscapes was something else. This is also a hallmark of the Faroe Islands.
Here you can see wind farms, solar power, hydroelectric power and tidal energy provide up to 100% of the islands’ energy consumption on days where nature shows its forces. The small island nation has set a climate target to run 100% on renewable energy by 2030.
State-of-the-art Road Network
When test driving the Audi Q6 e-tron Prototype in the unspoiled Faroe Islands, the international media guests took advantage of a road network rich in variety. The island group boasts quality roads on all major islands.
These isles are linked together with sub-sea tunnels including the planet’s only underwater tunnel featuring a roundabout under the seabed. This makes it effortless to go for a road trip and explore the outstanding nature along the route.
The second to none roads in the archipelago are made for an adventurous road trip. Pick up a rented car at the only airport in the Faroe Islands and 5 minutes later you are in the middle of the most undisturbed settings driving along the famed Lake Leitisvatn.
Drive another 10 minutes and you have left Vágar Island behind and Streymoy Island will greet you. This all happens smoothly and easy thanks to a subsea tunnel.
It takes only three quarters of an hour to get from Vágar Airport to the capital, Tórshavn. From there you can explore so many awe-inspiring sights on four wheels.
