Artificial grass covers the field. This makes for the best conditions in an island group with ever-changing weather.

Tórsvøllur is located only 100 metres from the 4* Hotel Brandan. It is easy and convenient to stay at the grass-roofed hotel when attending a football match at the national stadium of the Faroe Islands.

Gas station in Tórshavn near Tórsvøllur
The light masts at the national stadium are easy to spot around the capital. This gas station is located right next to the entrance area. Many locals will stop here either before matches or after a match to grab some refreshments.

The national football stadium is very close to the capital’s city centre. It takes only minutes to walk to the stadium from the restaurant district. In the same area, you will find most bars. This is around the boat marina in Tórshavn.

Expect a 10 minutes walk from the Tinganes peninsula, which is the heart of the capital. On your way to the stadium from the city centre, you will walk between the distinct low wooden buildings found in all inhabited places in the Faroe Islands. Just before you reach Tórsvøllur, you will walk along the plantation, which is one of only few places where you find trees growing in the otherwise grass-covered archipelago.

There are a couple of other football pitches right next to the stadium. Moreover, the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands sits close to where national football teams play.

Football is by all measures a very popular sport in the island group. The first football team was established in 1892. The sports has grown in popularity ever since.

There are 10 teams in the Premier Division in the Faroe Islands. The first matches of the season are played in early spring and the winner is found in autumn when the season ends. Attending a local match between for example the revivals HB from Tórshavn and KÍ from Klaksvík is a great way to experience something quite different. Matches are never sold out. Matches in the Premier Division are not played on the National Football Stadium, Tórsvøllur, but on a football pitch just next to it.
