Dunnesdrangar Rock Pillar

Dunnesdrangar Rock Pillar is the collective name for two sea stacks on the west coast on Vágar Island. In order to reach this attraction, you will walk for an hour from the village Sørvágur right next to Vágar Airport.
You will walk 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) across the moor before you get to the vantage point. The terrain when approaching Dunnesdrangar will never exceed 200 metres (656 feet) above sea level.
Dunnesdrangar rises 70 metres (230 feet) out of the ocean. There are other sea stacks along the craggy west coast on Vagar Island such as Geituskorardrangur.
The hike to this attraction requires a local guide. Book the Official Dunnesdrangar Hike.
Route to Dunnesdrangar Rock Pillar
The local guide will take you along the Dunnesdrangar hiking route safe and sound. It is a fairly easy hike and the views you get are out-of-this-world.
Faroe Islanders have never thought of the attraction as anything special. Nevertheless, with the rise of tourism in the Faroe Islands, the rugged coastline and the view of the rock pillar rising out of the sea has gained a lot of social media attention.
This is a new situation. With no real reason traditionally for the locals to get to the coastal wilderness on the west side on Vágar Island other than sheep herding, there is no foot path or any sign of man-made construction to this place.
There is nothing but nature between Sørvágur and the viewpoints along the coast. Getting to the place will take you through the grassy terrain.
Non-flight Zone for Drones
Please be aware that this attraction is within 5 km (3.1 miles) from the runway at Vágar Airport. This makes the area a non-flight zone for drones. Moreover, keeping drones on the ground will keep the natural habitat safe and sound.
There are spectacular coastal vistas all around the famous view of the rock pillar. Your guide will make sure that you get to hidden parts of the coastline with grandeur views of the cliffs filled with a rich birdlife.
