Ambadalur is a valley located one and a half hours hike from the village of Gjógv on Eysturoy Island. In Ambadalur you will have a great view over Búgvin, the largest sea stack in the Faroe Islands.

The hike to Ambadalur starts from the small village Gjógv. Follow the path next to the sea-filled gorge in the village.

As you walk along the fantastic coastline, you will have beautiful views. The route elevates until you get to a point when you start walking down towards the valley. There are small streams on every corner. They are filled by a constant flow of rainwater that comes down from the pristine mountains.

The sea stack Búgvin is home to a rich bird life. Expect to see everything from puffins to guillemots. Standing here at the edge of the valley towards the cliff with front row views is a truly unique experience.

Exploring Ambadalur and the great valley is a head-clearing journey. This place is pure nature and when in the valley there are no signs of human activity whatsoever. There is nothing but nature around you.

Please notice that there is no visible path when finding your way to the attraction. When walking towards the valley, you will have a sheer cliff on your right hand side. As the weather in the Faroe Islands is very changeable, you need to look at the weather forecast on the day before your planned hike and also on the same day as you want to go there.

Given the absence of a foot path to Ambadalur, you might consider a guided hiking tour as an option. A local tour guide might very well be just what you need to explore this place safely while enjoying the fresh air and stunning views.
