Rituvík

Rituvík is a settlement in the southernmost part of Eysturoy Island in the nature-filled Faroe Islands. Visit the place for beautiful views of the North Atlantic Ocean.

The settlement can be easily reached from the capital Tórshavn through the underwater tunnel Eysturoyartunnilin. On your way to Rituvík, you will pass the picturesque Lake Toftavatn. Rituvík translates directly to the Kittiwake inlet.

This is a quiet settlement where simplicity meets the beauty of nature. With no more than 100 houses scattered on the rolling hill, this settlement offers a serene retreat from the more frequented parts of the Faroe Islands. Its charm lies in its unpretentious atmosphere, deeply rooted in the rhythms of the sea and the land. Churches in the Faroe Islands are often located near the sea and some goes for this settlement.

The first thing visitors notice about Rituvík is the fairly flat landscape different from the towering mountains found most paces in the island group. Rituvík hugs a small cove that opens to the North Atlantic, framed by a rugged coastline and rolling green pastures. The fjord is a constantly shifting palette of light thanks to its south-facing location. Enjoy the moody skies with the vast ocean as a backdrop.

In summer, the fields bloom with small wildflowers, while winter dusts the surrounding hills in snow every now and them, giving the village a postcard-like appearance. With a quality road connecting this place to nearby settlements, including Rituvík on a road trip is worthwhile.
